Joe Biden continued to disgrace himself in the final days of his Presidency by awarding Liz Cheney the Presidential Citizens Medal, which is the second highest honor the President can bestow upon a civilian.
Biden handed Cheney this medal as payback for Cheney’s work on the January 6 Committee to try and jail Donald Trump.
The Federalist’s Mollie Hemingway explained to Fox News host Maria Bartiromo why this award was a farce due to alleged criminal conduct by Cheney and the other members of the January 6 Committee.
“Liz Cheney, in the course of running this committee to supposedly investigate the January 6th incident at the capitol, obstructed justice, witness-tampered. We have lots of reason to believe she witnessed tampered with Cassidy Hutchinson, getting involved in that woman’s actual legal representation. She hid evidence that exonerated Donald Trump,” Hemingway stated.
Hemingway added that Cheney and her fellow committee members suppressed evidence such as testimony by the deputy chief of staff that Donald Trump offered to deploy 10,000 National Guard troops to protect the Capitol on January 6 and that the chief of staff prodded the Mayor of D.C. to take Trump up on this offer.
Biden is now considering a preemptive pardon for Cheney and other loyalists because Biden knows Cheney could face legal jeopardy once the Trump administration takes over.
Cheney campaigned for Kamala Harris so Biden wants to take care of her before leaving office.
“The pardon is being sought by people who know what she did because she is in legal jeopardy. At the very least, she should be investigated for this. But I also think it’s so interesting how much Democrats — the reason why she’s getting the award is she helped Democrats campaign. They thought she was helpful,” Hemingway added.
“You might remember, the Kamala Harris campaign had Liz Cheney out on the road. That was their closing message. If you vote for Kamala Harris, you’re going to have people like Liz Cheney handling our foreign policy. And polling showed that was actually a net negative with people on that campaign,” Hemingway continued.
But Hemingway did say Cheney did one favor for the Republican Party.
And that was by pursuing Donald Trump to the ends of the earth Cheney made the war monger foreign policy her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney was so famous for – “toxic” in the Republican Party.
“So Liz Cheney, as awful as her behavior has been in these last few years, she did give Republicans this gift of taking her very unpopular, politically toxic, neocon interventionism and moving it from the Republican Party now firmly into the Democrat Party,” Hemingway stated.
Cheney and former President George W. Bush’s decision to invade Iraq created the conditions for Barack Obama’s election in 2008.
Americans soured on a regime change war of choice where the initial justification – Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction – proved to be false.
Bush’s approval rating plummeted into the 20s as the endless war dragged on and Americans were so desperate for change that they elected Obama.
But now the Cheney foreign policy is persona non grata with the GOP base.
