Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez trashes her party
The House of Representatives passed the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act by a 218-206 margin.
This bill bans biological males from playing girls’ sports in federally-funded programs or activities.
Two Democrats from Texas, Henry Cuellar and Vicente Gonzalez, joined every Republican in voting “yes.”
Even two Democrats deviating from the party line was two too many for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Ocasio-Cortez attacked her party as a bunch of “ninnies” in an interview with The Independent, after the House passed a bill banning men in women’s sports – a concept that a July 2023 Gallup poll showed 70 percent of Americans support.
“We can’t be ninnies about this,” Ocasio-Cortez ranted. “These are just the early days. Trump hasn’t even been sworn in yet, and if a little bitty sports bill was gonna make Dems defect, we’re not in good shape.”
This outburst by Ocasio-Cortez showed two things.
Number one, was that any talk in the media that “resistance” to Donald Trump was dead needs to go in one ear and out the other.
Ocasio-Cortez is itching for a fight and any Democrats who want to make common cause on the Trump agenda will face a public shaming from the biggest name Democrat left in Washington, D.C.
Second, it shows there is no appetite on the Left to move to the middle.
After the election, some Democrats like Congressman Seth Moulton (D-MA) admitted Democrats alienated voters through weird policy choices like defending the idea of men in women’s sports.
“Democrats spend way too much time trying not to offend anyone rather than being brutally honest about the challenges many Americans face,” Moulton told the New York Times in a post-election article. “I have two little girls, I don’t want them getting run over on a playing field by a male or formerly male athlete, but as a Democrat I’m supposed to be afraid to say that.”
Ocasio-Cortez wants every Democrat in Congress to understand that their radical left-wing base expects them to fight Donald Trump on every issue, even wildly popular ones like preventing biological males from playing girls’ sports.
The political downside to Ocasio-Cortez’s approach was shown by former University of Kentucky swimmer and women’s sports activist Riley Gaines.
Gaines expressed the common sense take on the idea that American voters hold by tying Ocasio-Cortez’s support for men in women’s sports to the Democrat Party’s demand that woke activists infiltrate classrooms and brainwash children into transgenderism.
“AOC says it’s predatory behavior to not want men competing in women’s sports. To AOC, acknowledging biological reality is ‘predatory.’ You know what’s actually predatory? Sexualizing children and normalizing pedophilia,” Gaines posted on X.
