Iowa Senator Joni Ernst is emerging as the biggest obstacle to confirming Pete Hegseth as Donald Trump’s Secretary of Defense.

Woke Generals like former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley – who claimed that “white rage” caused the events of January 6 – bedeviled Trump during his first term.

Trump picked Hegseth to run the Defense Department to clean house of woke generals like Milley, as well as DEI programs that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris put in place.

Joni Ernst claims to be a conservative.

Ernst represents a state Donald Trump won by 13 points.

And yet Ernst refuses to commit to supporting Hegseth’s nomination.

Ernst strongly supporting woke ideology is a likely reason why she wants to tank Hegseth’s bid to serve as Secretary of Defense.

In an interview with PBS’ Margaret Hoover for the Firing Line show, Ernst defended allowing transgenders to serve in the military.

“I’m looking at what’s good for our nation,” Ernst declared. “And believe me, when we’re facing a recruiting challenge right now, if people are physically willing and able to serve our country, we want them to do so.”

Erst also reportedly has a bee up her bonnet about Hegseth’s past opposition to women in combat.

But Ernst is willing to go ever further.

Ernst told Hoover that she supports allowing the government to draft 18-year-old women to go to war.

“Women are perfectly capable of contributing in combat,” Ernst stated. 

“We have women that are more physically capable than some of the men you might find. Isn’t it funny? We want to focus on standards. It’s OK. If women meet the physical standards to engage in combat they should be allowed that opportunity,” Ernst added.

“If they are men that don’t meet the physical requirements to engage in combat, they shouldn’t be allowed either. It shouldn’t be a back and forth about male, female. It should be about what is required of the duties that go into successful missions within the military,” Ernst concluded.

Many Americans are horrified about the idea of the government conscripting their daughters to fight in endless wars abroad like the one Ernst supports in Ukraine.

The Wall Street Journal and other outlets reported that Ernst’s name was floated as a possible replacement for Hegseth when Trump pulled the nomination.

Ernst wanted the job for herself so she could obtain a position of power to protect woke agenda items she holds near to her heart.

In Trump’s first term, establishment Republicans like Ernst got key positions because Trump didn’t know anyone in politics.

Now Trump knows all the key players.

And that’s why he picked a MAGA supporter like Hegseth to serve as his Secretary of Defense.

But establishment RINOs like Ernst think they serve as a human HR department and veto Trump’s cabinet picks.
