A “Baywatch” babe made a shocking confession about what happened behind the scenes
Baywatch was one of the most popular shows in the 1990s.
It was a global phenomenon.
But now a Baywatch babe made a shocking confession about what happened behind the scenes.
Baywatch ran from 1989 to 2001 – all but one season aired in syndication as NBC canceled Baywatch after one season due to poor ratings – and for a time was the most popular show in the world averaging 1.1 billion viewers per week across the globe.
The show starred David Hasselhoff as head lifeguard Mitch Buchanan and a bevy of female red swimsuit clad lifeguards nicknamed “Baywatch babes” such as Pamela Anderson, Yasmine Bleeth, and Gina Lee Nolan.
Baywatch was most famous for its slow motion shots of the women lifeguards running on the beach.
Nicole Eggert starred in Baywatch from 1991 to 1994.
The former child actor scored her breakout role on Charles in Charge before joining the Baywatch cast.
Eggert spoke to Fox News digital about her time on Baywatch and revealed the show wasn’t as glamorous as it seemed.
Baywatch depicted the exploits of California lifeguards and while the weather may have made it seem like they lived in paradise, Eggert revealed the number one drawback to filming the show was in the winter months even the Pacific Ocean temperatures grew chilly.
“The cold days you have — the bad always outweighs the good,” Eggert began.
“You know, fighting hypothermia. Like just trying to find a dry towel anywhere,” Eggert continued. “Those were really hard moments.”
Eggert explained she left the show after its fourth season – it’s a rarity for actors to leave hit shows at the peak of their popularity – because of the grind of being in Hollywood since she was a child.
“I needed to grow up and kind of work on myself,” Eggert continued. “At the time, for my own happiness, I just needed to take some downtime.”
Eggert told Fox News that fame is different in 2024 than 1994 as one doesn’t need to star in a hit TV show or movie to become a household name.
“But now I think the word ‘celebrity’ is used much more loosely now,” Eggert explained. “It encompasses so much more, should I say.”
Eggert said Baywatch is experiencing a resurgence in pop culture because of how big nostalgia is in this current moment.
“And celebrity has its funny things, because the ’90s is now nostalgic again,” Eggert continued. “So, it’s actually fun, because people are excited to think about ’90s actors and actresses and people that they watched.”
“So, it’s a fun time right now because the 90s are cool again, so it’s good for me,” Eggert concluded.
