The entertainment world is adjusting to life under President Trump.

Americans experienced a swift shift in the currents of popular culture.

A liberal comedian went on Saturday Night Live and had this to say to Donald Trump.

Over the last 48 years, Saturday Night Live served as a trend setter on the Left about who is the punchline and who is to be celebrated.

Since 2016, Donald Trump’s been a perpetual target of the show with left-wing actor Alec Baldwin first parodying Trump from 2016 to 2020 before being replaced by James Austin Johnson in 2021, who plays the role to this day.

Needless to say, Trump’s portrayal is never positive.

The episode of Saturday Night Live that aired prior to Trump’s inauguration was something different.

Saturday Night Live’s cold open – the skit that airs when the show comes on the air prior to the credits – is usually where the writers stick the sketch that is based on the biggest story in the news.

The cold open is a chance for the left-wing writers to get their digs in at Trump so the Democrat-skewed audience can laugh at their political opponents.

That wasn’t the case for the January 18, 2025, broadcast.

In this episode’s cold open, Saturday Night Live mocked MSNBC hosts like Joy Reid, Stephanie Rhule, Rachel Maddow, Joy Reid, Chris Hayes and Ari Melber for melting down over Trump’s win.

Saturday Night Live would never target Democrats unless they goal was to use humor to highlight their positive characteristics.

Not so with this sketch.

The send up of MSNBC was followed by comedian Dave Chappelle’s 17-minute monologue.

Chappelle – who appeared on stage smoking a cigarette – is a comedian who is known for whip-smart and searing social commentary mainly about race and culture in America.

The woke mob tried to cancel Chappelle because he made jokes about the absurdity of transgenderism.

In his monologue, Chappelle said show producer Lorne Michaels initially approached Chappelle about hosting the episode of Saturday Night Live just after the election.

Chappelle turned that down.

As a comic, Chappelle said he was largely bored of the Trump story and only agreed to do this show so he could finally get rid of his last remaining Trump jokes and be done with it.

But Chappelle closed his monologue on a serious note.

Chappelle told Trump that everyone around the world – no matter if they supported – was “counting on you.”

“So Donald Trump, I know you watch the show, man, remember, whether people voted for you or not, they’re all counting on you. Whether they like you or not, they’re all counting on you. The whole world is counting on you,” Chappelle stated.

Chappelle then wished Trump luck and hoped that his Presidency would bring much needed stability at home and across the world, while also calling Trump haters to show grace as the new administration takes office.

“And I mean this when I say this, good luck, please, do better next time. Please all of us, do better next time. Do not forget your humanity, and please have empathy for displaced people, whether they’re in the Palisades or Palestine,” Chappelle added.

Dave Chappelle is a partisan Democrat and no fan of Donald Trump.

But Chappelle understands that mindless resistance to Trump didn’t serve anyone well.

Trump winning the popular vote delivered him the political and cultural legitimacy the Left refused to grant after the 2016 election.

Chappelle’s olive branch to Trump is yet another sign that this is a new day in America.
