A top Republican lowered the boom on Chuck Schumer for this sick act of betrayal
Democrats got a wake-up call from voters with the results on Election Day.
The party is doing its best to avoid learning the lessons of 2024.
And a top Republican lowered the boom on Chuck Schumer for this sick act of betrayal.
Laken Riley Act tries to prevent another senseless tragedy
The murder of 22-year-old Georgia nursing student Laken Riley by an illegal alien from Venezuela was a preventable tragedy.
Jose Ibarra illegally crossed the border in El Paso, Texas, in September 2022 and was released into the country under President Joe Biden’s open border policies.
He made his way to New York City, where he was arrested for a driver’s license violation, reckless endangerment of a child, and acting in a manner injurious to a child.
New York’s sanctuary city law let him go free.
Ibarra got a free taxpayer-funded flight from the Biden administration to Georgia.
He was arrested in Athens, Georgia, for shoplifting, but was again released before he went on to murder Riley.
The Laken Riley Act was introduced into Congress to try and stop tragedies like this from ever happening again.
It requires that local law enforcement and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detain illegal aliens who are arrested for shoplifting or theft.
The also empowers state attorneys general to bring lawsuits against federal officials who don’t enforce immigration law or violate the Laken Riley Act.
Senate Republican slams Democrats for hesitation on the Laken Riley Act
The Laken Riley Act sailed through the House with bipartisan support after Democrats saw the effect of illegal immigration on the outcome of the 2024 Election.
It’s moving forward in the Senate with Democrat support but it may hit some roadblocks.
Some Senate Democrats want to make their support conditional on opening the bill up to amendments that would water it down or provide partial amnesty for illegal aliens.
U.S. Senator Bernie Moreno (R-OH) is a legal immigrant from Colombia.
He called it “abhorrent” that any Senate Democrat opposes the Laken Riley Act during an appearance on Newsmax’s Wake Up America.
“As a legal immigrant to this country it’s abhorrent that we have Democrats that would even think about voting against this bill,” Moreno said. “Look, if we can’t agree that criminals, people who committed crimes in this country, have to be deported, then we can’t have any reasonable conversations with Democrats.”
Moreno suspected the desire to win elections would get enough Democrats on board to support it.
“So I suspect — I’ve met a few freshman Democrats in our orientation, I think there’s some good ones there — I think we’re going to get much more than 60 votes, because, at the end of the day, the Democrats realize that if they continue to be completely unreasonable, completely radical, they will never win another election again,” Moreno continued. “And that’s what they care more about than anything else.”
He predicted that Trump would get to sign the Laken Riley Act into law on his first day in office.
“We get it teed up so the second President Trump is done being sworn in, being inaugurated — a historic day, by the way, the greatest comeback in American history — he will get to work, get that signed, get executive orders in,” Moreno stated.
Donald Trump could start off his Presidency with an early win by signing the bill into law.
