Bill O’Reilly told NewsNation’s Leland Vittert that he was on vacation with his son in California when Donald Trump summoned him to Mar-a-Lago.
O’Reilly explained that having worked as a journalist for 50 years he understands that when the President of the United States tells you to show up somewhere, you show up no questions asked.
“I was on vacation in California with my son, and I got a summons to go to Mar-a-Lago to see the president. I have met nine presidents, Leland, this is my 50th anniversary of being in journalism, January 2025, and when the president says, hey, come on over, you go on over,” O’Reilly began.
O’Reilly said he thinks Trump called him to Florida simply because he enjoys his company.
“So instead of flying from LA to New York and back, I flew from LA to Miami. And you don’t really want to go to Miami Airport unless you have to — hopped in a car and drove up to Mar-a-Lago. Now, when I got there, I had no idea why I had been asked to come. Now, I’ve known Donald Trump for 35 years, I think I amuse him at times. Kind of like you. You know, once in a while I amuse you,” O’Reilly added.
Trump prepared to wield power
O’Reilly then divulged what he saw in Florida which was a well-oiled Trump political machine holding cabinet-style meetings on how to craft policies on bringing manufacturing jobs back to the United States and implementing Trump’s tariff agenda.
Trump 2.0 looks nothing like the first administration as O’Reilly told Vittert that is now experienced in the powers of the Presidency and how to turn his agenda items into reality.
“I can tell you with certainty that eight years ago, Donald Trump really didn’t know what he was looking at as president of the United States, and he leaned on people for advice and to tell him what the structure was,” O’Reilly stated. “That’s gone. He knows exactly what the job is, and he knows exactly what he wants to do to fulfill his campaign promises.”
O’Reilly said Trump also quizzed him on the current media environment and which platforms and outlets were “ascendent” – podcasts and alternative news outlets that rejected Democrat Party dogma – and which were “through.”
O’Reilly told Vittert that he repeated his belief that Trump “killed corporate media” by winning the election.
