John Fetterman gave Elon Musk one endorsement that put jaws on the ground
Donald Trump tasked Elon Musk with shaking up Washington.
That typically guarantees automatic Democrat Party opposition.
But now John Fetterman gave Elon Musk one endorsement that put jaws on the ground.
Donald Trump named Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy as the co-chairs of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
During the campaign, Musk said it was vital to cut $2 trillion in spending as American’s $35 trillion national debt was unsustainable.
Ramaswamy said there is already over $500 billion in funding Congress that they can cut right away simply because Congress hasn’t authorized its spending.
If there is one prerogative the Swamp defends with the utmost ferocity, it’s the power of the purse.
Money equals power, and the more money at a government agency’s disposal, the more powerful it becomes.
Establishment RINOs like Mitch McConnell, Joni Ernst and Lindsey Graham always loathe slashing spending.
But Democrats are usually even more unyielding in their defense of big government boondoggles.
That’s why it stood out that Senator Fetterman (D-PA) endorsed DOGE’s efforts to develop a roadmap for Congress to follow to terminate wasteful spending.
“I admire @ElonMusk. He has been involved in very important parts of American society,” Fetterman told reporters.
“Yes, he’s on a different team, but that doesn’t make me an enemy […] Hey – he has made our economy and our nation better, and our politics are different, [but] that doesn’t make him an enemy,” Fetterman added.
Musk returned the compliment on social media.
“Hard not to like @SenFettermanPA,” Musk wrote.
“He puts country over party,” Musk added.
During the campaign, Fetterman also had kind words for Musk.
In a podcast interview with the New York Times, Fetterman expressed his worry that Musk’s endorsement would prove pivotal for Trump in Pennsylvania.
“And now [Elon] Musk is joining him,” Fetterman told interviewer Lulu Garcia-Navarro. “I mean, to a lot of people, that’s Tony Stark. That’s the world’s richest guy. And he’s obviously, and undeniably, a brilliant guy, and he’s saying, Hey, that’s my guy for president. That’s going to really matter.”
“Endorsements, they’re really not meaningful often, but this one is, I think,” Fetterman added. “That has me concerned.”
Fetterman could also be buttering up Musk as a way to try and reposition the Democrat Party.
Fetterman noted that Musk was once a Democrat, but that the woke Left drove Musk – as well as many others like Tulsi Gabbard and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. – into the MAGA movement.
By speaking so highly of Musk, Fetterman could be trying to win back the Elon Musk’s of the world without actually compromising on the left-wing principles that offended them so greatly in the first place.
The Democrat Party is in the wilderness.
John Fetterman thinks the party changing its tone without changing any of its issue positions is the path back to power.
