Mitt Romney is plotting behind closed doors to betray Trump. Here is what he is up to.
Utah Senator Mitt Romney is the Godfather of the Never-Trump movement.
Romney has been waiting for months to make his move against President Trump and senses that impeachment is now his big chance.
And Mitt Romney is plotting behind closed doors to betray Trump. Here is what he is up to.
Ever since the impeachment trial began Romney has been one of the Republicans Democrats can count on to vote to extend the impeachment hoax by calling new witnesses.
Romney pounced on the leak of former National Security Advisor John Bolton’s book that claimed President Trump linked security assistance to Ukraine investigating Joe and Hunter Biden to press other Republicans to go along with the Democrats’ scheme to let Chuck Schumer take over the impeachment trial.
“It has been pointed out so far by both the House managers as well the defense that there has not been evidence of a direct nature of what the president may have said or what his motives were or what he did,” Romney told the press. “The article in The New York Times I think made it pretty clear that [Bolton] has some information that may be relevant. And I’d like to hear relevant information before I made a final decision.”
POLITICO reported that in a closed door GOP caucus meeting Romney went even further and directly opposed Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s efforts to conclude this impeachment nonsense as quickly as possible and not call any witnesses.
Romney – as well as the Democrats – know new witnesses are unlikely the change the outcome of the Senate trial.
But Romney and the Democrats share a common goal of seeing Donald Trump defeated in 2020 and a Democrat President takeover.
And Romney and his Democrat allies believe an extended impeachment trial with more witness testimony will erode President Trump’s standing heading into the November election.
