Donald Trump crowed over a big win that left Democrats seething with rage
Democrats never saw this defeat coming.
Party leaders were left scrambling to pick up their pieces.
And Donald Trump crowed over a big win that left Democrats seething with rage.
Republican Glenn Youngkin delivered a crushing blow to Joe Biden’s political standing by winning the Virginia Gubernatorial Election with 51 percent of the vote.
Democrat Terry McAuliffe turned out 200,000 more Democrats than Ralph Northam did in Northam’s eight-point win in 2017.
But the Trump base turned out in droves and Youngkin improved on the Republicans 2020 margin in every county in Virginia.
The morning after Youngkin’s win, Trump released a statement crediting the MAGA base for winning the race with their impressive turnout.
“I would like to thank my BASE for coming out in force and voting for Glenn Youngkin,” Trump’s statement read. “Without you, he would not have been close to winning. The MAGA movement is bigger and stronger than ever before. Glenn will be a great governor. Thank you to the people of the Commonwealth of Virginia and most particularly, to our incredible MAGA voters!”
Joe Biden also agreed with Donald Trump.
In a press conference the following day – one of the rare occasions Biden took questions from the press – Biden confirmed that the Trump base turning out was the key to Youngkin’s victory.
A reporter asked Biden about if his multi-trillion dollar socialist spending scheme passing before the election would have made a difference which prompted Biden to acknowledge the role the MAGA base played in Biden’s party losing in Virginia.
“I think it should have passed before Election Day, but I’m not sure that I would be able to have changed the number of very conservative folks who turned out and the red districts who were Trump voters. But maybe,” Biden stated.
