Nancy Pelosi admitted one fact about impeachment that made Democrats nervous
Democrats have passed the point of no return on impeachment.
Their far-left base pushed them into this fight.
But Nancy Pelosi admitted one fact about impeachment that made Democrats nervous.
Ever since Nancy Pelosi renamed the Democrats’ investigations as impeachment inquiries, many in Washington, D.C. have been wondering how it will play out politically.
Some in the Democrat Party are worried impeachment will backfire and that Democrats will pay a political price.
Nancy Pelosi did not calm their fears when Pelosi declared impeachment to be worth losing the House over at the Tribune Fest in Texas.
The Hill reports:
During an interview at Tribune Fest, hosted by the Texas Tribune, Pelosi argued that following Congress’ mandate to hold the president accountable is more important than politics.
“Heading into the next election cycle, do you have any anxiety at all about any of the stuff we’re talking about…impacting your ability to hold control of the House in 2020?” Tribune CEO Evan Smith asked.
“It doesn’t matter,” Pelosi responded. “Our first responsibility is to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
“People say you have to take a political risk doing that,” she continued. “That doesn’t matter. That doesn’t matter. Because we cannot have a president of the United States undermining his oath of office, his loyalty to his oath of office, undermining our national security, and undermining the integrity of our elections.”
Democrats in Congressional Districts that Donald Trump carried in 2016 are sweating bullets.
That is one reason Nancy Pelosi has so far refused to hold a vote on an official impeachment inquiry.
Such a move would force Democrats in Trump districts to go on the record supporting removing the President.
But Pelosi’s comments in Texas show the Speaker does not care and that the impeachment train is rolling on.
