Ilhan Omar’s brain melted when she found out about this criminal investigation
Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar bit off a bit more than she could chew.
Omar may come to regret this one.
And Ilhan Omar’s brain melted when she found out about this criminal investigation.
Socialist Rep. – and “Squad” member – Cori Busch (D-MO) is the subject of a criminal investigation into misuse of campaign funds after she paid her now husband Cortney Merritts over $100,000 for security fees since January 2022.
Watchdog groups filed complaints with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) that she enriched her family by paying Merritts above market rates.
Busch spent $700,000 on private security while also being one of the loudest advocates in the Democrat Party for defunding the police which led to Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) slamming her as a hypocrite in comments to CNN.
“She doesn’t even support the police. But the idea to pay her thug money to try to help protect her this and that, for what?” Nehls told CNN’s Melania Zanona. “Maybe if she wouldn’t be so loud all the time, maybe she wouldn’t be getting threats.”
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Busch responded in predictable fashion by playing the race card to distract from the criminal investigation into Busch.
“The loud black woman trope is racist and tired,” Omar posted on social media. “The Congressman should apologize and all members of Congress should condemn him.”
Busch also deployed the typical Democrat Party trope of accusing anyone who criticizes them of inciting violence.
“@RepTroyNehls just called my husband, a Black man and army veteran, a thug. And I’m the loud Black woman who needs to be silent in order to be safe from violence, or else?” Busch posted on social media.
“This is the kind of rhetoric that endangers Black lives. He must apologize,” Busch added.
Busch and Omar want to play racial grievance politics to muddy the waters as Busch’s official response revealed a major problem as she admitted her now-husband was hired to provide security services.
However, Merritts isn’t licensed as a security guard in Missouri.
“[I] can confirm that the Department of Justice is reviewing my campaign’s spending on security services. We are fully cooperating in this investigation, and I would like to take this opportunity to outline the facts and the truth,” Busch stated.
“Since before I was sworn into office, I have endured relentless threats to my physical safety and life. As a rank-and-file member of Congress, I am not entitled to personal protection by the House and instead have used campaign funds as permissible to retain security services. I have not used any federal tax dollars for personal security services. Any reporting that I have used federal funds for personal security is simply false,” Busch added.
And now this investigation may spread to the state level as well.
