Chief Justice John Roberts continues to push behind the scenes to switch the votes of at least one conservative Justice in order to uphold Roe v. Wade.
After POLITICO published a leaked draft opinion by Justice Samuel Alito striking down Roe, the media campaign to intimidate the conservative Justices into backing down kicked into high gear.
But so far, the media and Chief Justice Roberts failed in their efforts.
The Washington Post published another leak from the Court revealing that the Court’s five conservative Justices refused to budge and remained resolute in ending the historical wrong of Roe v. Wade.
In addition, the Post reported that after the Justices heard oral arguments on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health – the case that became the vehicle to overturn Roe – Roberts informed the other Justices he planned to uphold the state of Mississippi’s ban on abortion after 15 weeks while leaving Roe intact.
The other conservative Justices had other ideas and planned to overturn Roe and end mandated abortion on demand in all 50 states.
The Washington Post reports:
The leaked draft opinion is dated in February and is almost surely obsolete now, as justices have had time to offer dissents and revisions. But as of last week, the majority of five justices to strike Roe remains intact, according to three conservatives close to the court who, like others, spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive matter.
A person close to the most conservative members of the court said Roberts told his fellow jurists in a private conference in early December that he planned to uphold the state law and write an opinion that left Roe and Casey in place for now. But the other conservatives were more interested in an opinion that overturned the precedents, the person said. A spokeswoman for the court declined to comment, and messages extended to justices were unreturned.
The Supreme Court has never seen leaks like this before.
The leakers are likely feeding the media these stories in the hopes that pro-abortion fanatics in the press and activist community will turn more strident.
Already, mobs are menacing Supreme Court Justices at their homes, and Justice Samuel Alito was forced to take his family to an undisclosed location.
The Court’s conservatives are holding for now.
But there are still nearly two months to go before the Supreme Court releases its opinion in the abortion case.

These leaks are designed to make sure that does not happen.
