A retirement rumor about Clarence Thomas led to one stunning answer
Rumors that Clarence Thomas would retire from the Supreme Court swirled for the last year.
That speculation heated up yesterday after a bombshell report in The Washington Post.
And this retirement rumor about Clarence Thomas led to one stunning answer.
Washington Post reporter Robert Costa reported that some of Trump’s aides believed Clarence Thomas was the Supreme Court Justice most likely to retire.
Judicial Crisis Network President Carrie Severino told Breitbart News Tonight that there was no way Thomas would retire right now.
“Every year, around this time, we start hearing some of the same rumors. You heard them last year, the same ones. From my perspective — and I know Justice Thomas well, I clerked for him — I can tell you [with] one hundred percent certainty, that rumor, there is nothing to it,” Severino began.
“I hear [these rumors] regularly every year or so, and that gives me serious pause as to the rumors about Justice Alito, as well, because it seems like it’s the same sources. People love to speculate, especially around the end of the Supreme Court term, but most of the time I think it turns out to be nothing more than rumor.”
Summertime is usually when retirement rumors surface.
The court is done for the year and all of Washington, D.C. speculates that an administration would like to see long time justices from other Presidents retire so they can put their own stamp on the court with younger, more ideologically aligned nominees.
But Clarence Thomas has said on record he plans to serve at least 20 more years on the Supreme Court.
And although his wife is a conservative activist closely aligned with the Trump administration few believe Thomas would actually step down.
