Vladimir Putin used this illegal bomb and now all hell is breaking loose
Russia suffered serious setbacks in the initial days of its invasion of Ukraine.
Now it looks like Putin escalated his offensive in frightening ways.
And Vladimir Putin used this illegal bomb and now all hell is breaking loose.
Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United States, Oksana Markarova, accused Putin of using a “vacuum bomb” in shelling Ukrainian cities.
“They used the vacuum bomb today,” Markarova stated. “The devastation that Russia is trying to inflict on Ukraine is large.”
A “vacuum bomb” – or a thermobaric weapon – sucks out all the oxygen after it detonates in order to create a bigger blast radius.
This bomb is also capable of vaporizing humans and is considered illegal under international law.
Putin stepped up his offensive, dispatching a 40-mile long convoy of vehicles, troops, and artillery to surround the Ukrainian Capitol of Kyiv and stage a medieval siege in order to topple the government.
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki noted that even though reports that Putin used a thermobaric bomb were still unconfirmed, that it would be a war crime if he did.
“If that were true, it would potentially be a war crime,” White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki told reporters, adding that Joe Biden “would look to be a part of that conversation.”
International Criminal Court Prosecutor Karim Khan announced plans to open an investigation into war crimes committed before the current invasion, but “given the expansion of the conflict in recent days, it is my intention that this investigation will also encompass any new alleged crimes falling within the jurisdiction of my office that are committed by any party to the conflict on any part of the territory of Ukraine.”
Khan added that he would ask the member states of the court to fund the investigation into potential Russian war crimes.
“I will be calling for additional budgetary support, for voluntary contributions to support all our situations, and for the loan of gratis personnel,” Khan added. “The importance and urgency of our mission is too serious to be held hostage to lack of means.”
The Russians are trying to break the Ukrainian resistance to the invasion by deploying weapons to make it clear to the people that the cost of continued fighting is unthinkably high.
But since Vladimir Putin clearly has no regard for civilian casualties, it is not beyond the realm of possibility that he would deploy a thermobaric bomb.
