One top Trump critic just publicly admitted they made this huge mistake
Trump haters got out over their skis.
The Never-Trumpers know they went too far.
And one top Trump critic just publicly admitted they made this huge mistake.
Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie endorsed Donald Trump for President in 2016 and 2020.
But after the 2020 election, Christie broke with President Trump.
Christie plans to run for President again in 2024 as a Trump supporter turned critic.
Central to Christie’s pitch is that Donald Trump is supposedly unfit to be President because of what happened on January 6.
In an interview on ABC’s This Week, former Governor Christie baselessly claimed Donald Trump incited the riot at the Capitol to force Vice President Mike Pence to block the certification of Joe Biden’s election.
“And let’s face it, let’s call this what it is, January 6th was a riot that was incited by Donald Trump in an effort to intimidate Mike Pence and the Congress into doing exactly what he said in his own words last week, overturn the election,” Christie claimed.
Within 24 hours, Christie reversed course.
In an interview with centrist radio host Hugh Hewitt, Christie walked back his claim that Trump incited the riot.
“I don’t think he intended that,” Christie said in response to Hewitt before adding, “but I think what he intended, and his words this past week support this, that he was attempting to set up a situation to intimidate Mike Pence and intimidate the members of Congress into voting to overturn the election, his words, overturn the election, Hugh.”
Hewitt pressed Christie again if he thought Trump’s speech at the January 6 rally was protected speech under the Supreme Court’s Brandenburg v. Ohio precedent.
Once again, Christie agreed that the speech was protected under the Constitution and that Trump did not criminally incite a riot.
“Okay, I believe his speech was protected. I believe his speech was protected. That’s why I say that when you look at the causation chain, him saying the things he was saying from Election Day forward is what causes the problems,” Christie stated.
Democrats and the corporate-controlled media are obsessed with January 6.
Polls show the American people give Joe Biden failing grades on almost every issue.
That’s why the media and Democrats launched into overdrive about January 6, seeing it as their only arrow in the quiver heading into the Midterm elections.
Christie realized he went over the line in accusing Donald Trump of a crime.
Christie also realized that if he wants any prayer of being a viable 2024 candidate – which he isn’t – he needed to find a way to retcon his January 6 comments.
