Royce White is a Republican candidate on the ballot in Minnesota's 2026 U.S. Senate primary, the same race in which he was the GOP nominee in 2024 before losing to Amy Klobuchar.

This week he posted a photo of himself in a wig on X.

He wrote that he had not been "publicly trans for 72 hours" and was "already getting so much hate," adding he just wanted to "hoop with my girls" in his "feminine era."

He announced plans to declare for the 2027 WNBA draft.

He did not do this alone.

Former NBA center Enes Kanter Freedom made the identical announcement first, on the same Friday White followed.

Both men argued that if the WNBA lets players identify their way onto women's rosters, they qualify too.

Jordan Conradson at The Gateway Pundit captured the stunt, quoting White's deadpan case that he "never thought that I was a woman but after further review."

The line was designed to be absurd.

That was the entire point, because White has openly dared the league to draw a line disqualifying a 6-foot-8, 265-pound former power forward from trying.

Two former NBA players in wigs should not be able to rattle a professional sports league.

Cathy Engelbert did not see it that way.

The WNBA commissioner sent a memo to every team the same Friday White and Kanter Freedom made their announcements.

Engelbert told teams she knew "many of you have received questions in recent weeks regarding transgender athlete participation in women's basketball, and I expect this topic will continue to receive significant attention."

That is a commissioner admitting she has no answer ready.

She promised the league would discuss the issue "thoughtfully, respectfully, and in alignment with the longstanding values of our league" at a meeting with team presidents and general managers the following week.

Translation: she is stalling.

The WNBA Players Association piled on with its own statement backing "diversity and inclusion" while insisting players should not be "used as political pawns."

None of that stopped White.

He kept posting, and he kept daring the league to say out loud what it has spent years dodging.

Royce White understood something the WNBA never wanted said in public – if biological sex does not determine eligibility, a 6-foot-8, 265-pound former NBA player has just as much claim on a roster spot as anyone else.

That is not a hateful argument.

That is the exact logic the league has refused to rule out for years, and Cathy Engelbert just proved it by circulating a memo about "listening sessions" instead of a policy.

Royce White just made the WNBA put its dodge in writing, one day before Minnesota Republicans decide whether he is their nominee again.
