James Talarico Headlined a Pride Event that Could Sink His Senate Campaign and One Detail Should Send People to Prison

James Talarico built his Senate campaign on being a Bible quoting Democrat.

A new report just surfaced something from 2021 his campaign wanted buried.

That something is about to reshape how Texans see his entire campaign.

Organizers Bragged About The Child On Stage

A new report reveals Texas Senate candidate James Talarico headlined a pride event alongside an eleven year old drag performer billed as "Kween Kee Kee."

Event organizers called the preteen boy the "absolute cutest and youngest of our drag performers," and put those words in writing.

Talarico topped the bill.

He shared the marquee with a child performing in drag for an adult crowd, and his campaign let it happen without objection.

He's the same candidate who spent months telling voters God is "nonbinary" and that there are six genders, then walked the comments back only after Paxton's runoff win turned them into a general election liability.

He's also drawn scrutiny for campaigning alongside a doctor who performed gender transition procedures on minors.

The pride event pairing fits a pattern voters are only now getting the full picture of.

Talarico has never denied any of it.

He's leaned into the fight instead, telling reporters that Paxton is "clipping my cringey comments" to distract from his own "career of corruption."

That defense might work against a normal opposition research dump.

It doesn't explain away video of him headlining an event where a child performed drag for applause.

The Faith Brand Was The Whole Pitch

Talarico didn't run as a typical Texas Democrat.

He ran as the guitar playing, Scripture quoting candidate who could win back rural churchgoers Democrats lost a generation ago.

National reporters ate it up.

Profile after profile cast him as proof that a "religious left" could actually win in Texas.

Every one of those profiles rested on one premise: that Talarico's faith made him different, more careful, more trustworthy on cultural issues than the national party.

Headlining a pride show next to a child drag performer blows a hole straight through that premise.

This Race Just Got A Lot More Interesting

Talarico is leading Ken Paxton by five points in the latest Texas Tribune poll, with Paxton having just survived a bruising primary runoff against John Cornyn to win the GOP nomination.

That lead was built on Talarico convincing skeptical Texas voters he wasn't a typical coastal Democrat on cultural issues.

This story tests whether that image can survive contact with the facts.

Texas Republicans have hammered this exact issue for years, pushing bills against drag performances marketed to children and defunding library events that featured them.

Talarico spent the campaign positioning himself above that fight.

Sharing a stage with a bragging emcee introducing a child performer erases the distance he worked to build.

Paxton's campaign now has video, a direct quote from organizers, and a candidate who can't easily explain his way out of either one.
