The complaint fits a trend that has already gone viral once this year – a video of a Wingstop location showing off a sign reading "WE'RE CASHLESS" and turning away a customer who tried to pay in dollar bills.
Wingstop has been running all-digital test locations since 2022, and it is far from alone.
Industry reporting shows chains like KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell have openly stated goals of pushing toward 100 percent digital sales.
This Is Not Really About Counterfeit Bills
Executives will tell you cashless registers speed up lines and cut theft.
Fine.
But the customers in that viral video were not worried about theft.
They were worried about a corporation deciding, on its own, who gets to buy dinner and how.
Cash is legal tender in the United States.

Every time a company goes cashless, it insists the customers will adjust, and every time enough of them push back until the company backs down or a city forces its hand.
Here is what fires me up about this story.
Nobody asked working people whether they wanted their government-issued cash treated like an inconvenience at the drive-through window.
Plenty of grandparents, cash-tip workers, and people who simply do not want a corporation tracking every burger they buy got told their money was not welcome.
Sweetgreen already caved once enough customers made noise.
