Ralph Norman Picked Up a Major Endorsement as South Carolina Conservatives Revolt Against Darline Graham

 

Darline Graham’s bid for a full Senate term ignited a Republican revolt.

A grassroots powerhouse just weighed in, declaring its involvement in the August 11 GOP special primary.

And a new federal filing shows their opening salvo on Norman’s behalf.

Federal Filing Shows National Association for Gun Rights’ Direct Investment in Norman

National Association for Gun Rights’ Gun Rights America PAC, filed a 24-hour FEC notice on July 31 disclosing independent expenditures supporting Norman’s Senate bid.

The filing lists three separate expenditures for in-kind voter contact – text messaging, phone banking, and email outreach – built to reach primary voters directly.

It’s backing that comes at a crucial moment given the compressed timeframe for the August 11 special primary to determine who will appear on the November ballot following Lindsey Graham’s death.

The National Association for Gun Rights (NAGR) now has phones already ringing and texts going out in support of Norman.

An email from the group’s president, Dudley Brown on Friday afternoon highlighted Norman’s strong record on gun rights and the Second Amendment, including his co-sponship of  real national Constitutional Carry:

Ralph Norman has a 100% pro-gun voting record. Not “mostly.” Not “mostly, except when it’s politically convenient.”

One hundred percent, on every pro-gun vote that’s come before him.

Ralph Norman doesn’t hedge on the Second Amendment. He doesn’t “study the issue.” He doesn’t triangulate for the editorial boards. He votes like the Bill of Rights actually means something.

NAGR’s X account highlighted the endorsement as well with a post showing Norman alongside the gun groups’ Ryan Flugaur.

The National Association for Gun Rights has never been shy about picking principled fights – including within the Palmetto State.

NAGR built its reputation as the “no-compromise” alternative to the NRA, enjoins strong support in South Carolina and spent early 2024 flexing the grassroots muscle of its membership when state legislators tried to weaken their constitutional carry bill.

South Carolina ultimately passed constitutional carry into law when Governor Henry McMaster signed it on March 7, 2024, following heavy lobbying and pressure led by NAGR and its Palmetto Gun Rights affiliate in the state.

Norman’s Second Amendment Record Goes Back Nearly a Decade

This is not a candidate discovering gun rights on the Senate campaign trail.

In 2018, Norman reportedly pulled out his personal .38-caliber Smith & Wesson out during a “Coffee with Constituents” meeting at a Rock Hill diner and set it on the table.

“I’m not going to be a Gabby Giffords,” Norman told reporters afterward, referencing the 2011 shooting of former Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords which may have ended much differently if Giffords had been prepared with the tools for self defense.

Liberal media howled for a news cycle.

But South Carolina conservatives agreed with Norman.

It’s not just a brand to position himself when it’s time to talk to voters.

Norman is not only a congressman who will not apologize for owning a gun, using a gun, or talking about a gun in public – he also has more than a decade of floor votes to back it up.

That record is the reason the National Association for Gun Rights’ PAC is backing his election to Senate.

Norman enters the August 11 primary leading the crowded Republican field with 22 percent support, ahead of Graham.

He has also banked endorsements from Senators Rick Scott and Mike Lee, former Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows, and Turning Point USA.

Conservatives Are Still Fuming Over the Graham Senate Pick

Darline Graham, the late senator’s sister, is seeking a full six-year term after being appointed to serve out what remained of his.

She had never held elected office before Governor Henry McMaster appointed her to the seat this month.

South Carolina Republicans are not hiding their frustration.

“We’re not going to have a coronation in this state,” said Mark Lynch, one of Graham’s primary rivals, adding that voters will not simply crown Darline as queen beneath her late brother.

State GOP operatives have told multiple outlets that primary voters are wary of handing a Senate seat to a famous last name with no record of her own.

They want a candidate with bona fides.

Norman is that candidate.

“Ralph is a conservative fighter,” Rick Scott said in his endorsement, crediting Norman for casting vote after vote to advance the SAVE America Act and the rest of the president’s agenda.

Jordan Pace, a South Carolina state representative, pointed to Norman’s rankings from Turning Point USA, Club for Growth, and CPAC as evidence he has been one of the chamber’s most conservative members for years.

Ralph Norman’s Record Is Beating Darline Graham’s Name

South Carolina conservatives have spent weeks grumbling that party leaders are trying to crown a newcomer over proven fighters.

A famous last name can hand Darline Graham a title.

It cannot hand her a record, a base, or eight years of proof that she will not blink when the left comes after gun owners.

Norman has all three, and the National Association for Gun Rights wants primary voters to know it before they cast a ballot.

In a nine-man field already splitting the conservative vote several ways, reaching primary voters first can decide who ultimately wins not only on August 11 but also in November.
