The Republican National Committee (RNC) received a major shake-up ahead of the 2024 Election.
Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel was replaced by North Carolina GOP Chair Michael Whatley and Lara Trump – former President Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law – became co-chair.
The McDaniel-led RNC has overseen several disappointing elections in a row so the organization is rolling out some new tactics to put Trump back in the Oval Office.
Republicans are going after mail-in votes
Until Republicans can change election laws in states, mail-in and early voting is something that the GOP has to utilize.
Democrats have been able to head into Election Day with massive numbers of mail-in and early votes banked in previous elections.
New RNC Co-Chair Lara Trump said that the GOP needs to use “legal ballot harvesting” to be competitive with Democrats in the November election.
“We’ve been playing checkers, and the Democrats have been playing chess,” Trump told the Washington Examiner. “Unfortunately, we don’t have one day of voting, we don’t have paper ballots, we don’t have voter ID everywhere. So we have to play the hand that we’re dealt.”
She said the mail-in and early votes would be critical to keep pace with Democrats.
“That way, we have votes banked as we head into Election Day, and we’re not playing catchup on November 5 with the Democrats,” Trump added.
RNC taking part in ballot harvesting
Democrats have made ballot harvesting – when a third party collects a mail-in ballot – a central part of their campaign strategy.
“We need to be doing legal ballot harvesting – something that has never been done by the RNC, but I can promise you will be a huge part of what we’re planning to do,” Trump explained.
Trump said that the RNC is going to be ready to go on Election Day with trained officials to protect election integrity.
“And then come Election Day, and you’ll see that, I think, it’s not just about having poll watchers. It’s about having trained poll watchers and lawyers at locations around the country as necessary,” Trump said. “And these are people who will be trained and able to physically count how many ballots are coming in. And how many ballots are going out.”
Until Republicans can change the laws they have to play within the existing rules.
This is a dramatic difference from the 2020 Election and one that will pay off.
The more early votes that are collected will allow campaigns to turn their attention to trying to target infrequent Republican voters.
Trump said her mission is to “have people’s trust restored in our electoral process.”
She added that the money raised by the RNC will go toward making sure Republicans are victorious on Election Day.
“Truthfully, people have felt like they don’t know if/when they donate their money to the RNC, it will ultimately go to the causes that they care about,” Trump said. “I hope to be there as someone who will ensure that, indeed, every single dollar donated goes to making sure we win on Election Day – at the top of the ballot and down the ballot.”
The RNC firing on all cylinders will be crucial to ensuring the GOP ticket is victorious.
