George Soros’s Son Cheered Surprise Brazilian Win While Bolsonaro’s Father Sat in a Prison Cell

George Soros's son cheered online the moment Brazil declared Flavio Bolsonaro the loser.

Brazil's Supreme Court had already convicted Bolsonaro's father of plotting a coup and sentenced him to twenty seven years.

The man cheering that outcome the loudest has a family fortune built on deciding who wins.

The Tweet That Came Before the Ambassador Lost Her Visa

Alex Soros, chairman of Open Society Foundations and son of billionaire George Soros, posted his reaction within hours of the result.

"Lula Lula Lula! Congrats to Brazil for standing up against authoritarianism once again!" he wrote on X.

He did not mention that Flavio was only on the ballot because the same court had already convicted his father and barred him from running at all.

Gateway Pundit's own reporting on the race noted that Brazil's electronic voting machines produce no paper trail, a detail Soros's celebratory post never addressed.

The timing mattered.

The Trump administration had already imposed tariffs as high as 50 percent on Brazilian goods months before a single vote was counted, citing the treatment of Bolsonaro's father.

Weeks before the election, the State Department revoked the visa of Brazil's ambassador to the United States, Maria Luiza Ribeiro Viotti, after Brasilia stalled on approving Trump's pick for ambassador there, former Florida House Speaker Danny Perez.

She has not been declared persona non grata, but she would need a new visa the moment she leaves the country.

A State Department spokesperson called it a reciprocal action, saying Brazil had been given every opportunity to do the right thing.

Soros called Lula's win a victory against authoritarianism while the losing candidate's father sat in prison and Washington and Brasilia traded diplomatic punishments.

The Election Monitors Lula Refused to Let Into Brazil

Weeks before Brazilians voted, the State Department tried to send two officials to monitor election integrity on the ground.

Riley Barnes, the Assistant Secretary of State for democracy, human rights and labor, and one of his top aides sought visas for a routine visit on election integrity, religious freedom and free expression.

Brazil denied them.

Lula's government claimed the real goal was to criticize the election process.

The State Department said that was false.

A government that trusts its own election does not need to keep American diplomats out of the country to prove it.

Washington warned that further diplomatic measures were possible if Brazil kept stalling on Perez.

Instead, Brazil let an admitted Soros ally celebrate the outcome in public while blocking the people sent to check the process that produced it.

The White House Meetings That Preceded Lula's Own Visit

Alex Soros did not discover Lula da Silva on election night.

White House visitor logs show he met five times with Jon Finer, then the Principal Deputy National Security Adviser, starting in December 2021.

The last of those meetings fell on February 9, 2023 – the same day President Biden hosted Lula at the White House.

Pedro Abramovay, who ran Open Society's Rio de Janeiro office and had served in Lula's previous administration, sat in on that meeting.

Abramovay went on to advise Lula's presidential transition team.

One week later, George Soros appeared at the Munich Security Conference while his son attended alongside him.

Open Society had already spent more than $110 million in 2021 alone on advocacy programs across Latin America and the Caribbean, with Brazil a central focus.

None of that made it into Alex Soros's victory tweet.

What Flavio Bolsonaro Was Actually Running Against

Flavio Bolsonaro wasn't just running against Lula da Silva.

He was running against a court system that had already convicted his father of money laundering in 2024 and a coup plot in 2025, a White House that gave the family bankrolling his opponent five private meetings, and a diplomatic machine that kept American election observers out of the country.

Every piece of that fell into place one indictment, one meeting and one dollar at a time, long before Brazilians cast a single ballot.

Conservatives in Brazil now watch their most prominent political family locked up while the people who cheered it get invited into the room next door.

Americans should recognize the pattern because it is the same one that reshaped Brazilian politics for a decade, financed by the same family and defended with the same talking points every time.
