Stephen Miller Told Sean Hannity Exactly What CBS Should Be Forced to Become

Networks buried the Hunter Biden laptop story weeks before Americans went to vote.

Stephen Miller says legacy networks have been running that same playbook for years, and he's done pretending it's innocent.

What he suggested the federal government do to knock CBS and its peers off their pedestal to become should terrify the so-called journalists and their Democrat pals.

The Rule That Applies to Every American Except Journalist

Every super PAC in America has to register with the government.

Every campaign has to disclose its donors.

Every political operation in this country has to follow the same set of rules, unless that operation happens to own a broadcast license.

A media study published this month found that ABC, NBC and CBS delivered Democrat-friendly coverage of the government shutdown fight, according to Fox News reporting on the study's findings.

Stephen Miller sat down with Sean Hannity days after that study made headlines, and he did not want to talk about tone.

He wanted to talk about the loophole.

"They're an arm of the Democrat Party," Miller told Hannity, arguing that CBS, ABC, NBC and The New York Times function as a coordinated messaging operation instead of neutral news organizations.

Miller's proposal is not that these networks should be censored or shut down.

His proposal is that they should be forced to register as Democrat political action committees, the same designation any other group running political messaging for one party would already carry.

Strip away the outrage and that is the entire argument.

Play by the same rules as everyone else, or stop calling yourself the press.

Facebook Already Proved the Double Standard Has a Body Count

This is not a new theory Miller invented on Hannity's set.

Facebook executives suppressed the Hunter Biden laptop story just weeks before the 2020 election, according to a House Judiciary Committee report built on internal company testimony.

NPR's own CEO later admitted the network was "mistaken" to refuse coverage of that story at the time, a rare on-record concession from inside the industry Miller is now targeting.

The story turned out to be true.

It got buried anyway, right when it could have hurt the Democrat ticket the most – and nobody at Facebook or NPR faced the disclosure requirements a political operation would have faced for the exact same conduct.

That is the double standard Miller is pointing at.

A regular American who ran a coordinated messaging campaign to protect one party's candidate right before an election would answer to the Federal Election Commission.

A network that does the same thing gets to call it journalism and walk away.

Federal election law lets news organizations run political coverage without registering as political committees, because reporters are supposed to be neutral.

Legal scholars who track that exemption have been warning for years it was never built to shield outlets whose editorial calls track the Democrat National Committee line story for story.

Conservative lawyers have been building this exact case for years.

If an organization functions as a political operation, it should follow the same disclosure rules as every other political operation in America.

Not a stricter rule.

Not a punishment.

The same rule everyone else already lives under.

Democrats and media figures will call this an attack on press freedom.

It is not press freedom to run a political operation behind a press badge while every other American engaged in political speech has to disclose exactly what Miller wants CBS to disclose.

Miller's argument comes down to one sentence: these networks chose to become political actors, and they don't get a special exemption from the rules everyone else already follows just because they call it news.

That is not censorship.

That is equal treatment under the law, and it is long overdue.
