Hollywood legend Kurt Russell has been making rounds promoting Taylor Sheridan's new series The Madison.

But fans just learned something shocking about the show.

And Kurt Russell dropped one bombshell about The Madison that nobody saw coming.

Taylor Sheridan made one unprecedented move with "The Madison"

Kurt Russell spilled major behind-the-scenes secrets about The Madison during his recent interview with Entertainment Weekly.

The 74-year-old actor revealed that Paramount+ and Taylor Sheridan did something practically unheard of in television.

They filmed two complete seasons back-to-back before the first episode even aired.

Russell explained that his filming schedule for Apple TV+'s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 created a timing nightmare when Sheridan wanted him for The Madison.

"I did the second season of Monarch [Legacy of Monsters], the Apple TV show, and unfortunately for me, the timing was when Madison came around," Russell told Entertainment Weekly.

Russell told Sheridan and star Michelle Pfeiffer there was no way he could make it work.

But Pfeiffer and Sheridan weren't taking no for an answer.

Michelle Pfeiffer and Taylor Sheridan pulled off the impossible

"Michelle Pfeiffer and Taylor [Sheridan] were able to get together with the people at Paramount+ and said, 'Well, let's do two seasons instead of just one,'" Russell revealed.

The network agreed to completely restructure their production schedule around Russell's availability.

"And then before we start the second season next year, instead of doing that, we will start with Kurt's stuff. We really do want him to play the guy. And we'll get his first season out of the way first, and jam all that in there, and then go into the second season and do that," Russell explained.

Translation: They filmed Russell's Season 1 scenes first, then immediately shot his Season 2 scenes.

That's practically unheard of for a brand-new series.

The network filmed two complete seasons of a show before seeing how viewers would react to the first episode.

Russell revealed the unusual format for "The Madison"

Russell dropped another detail that sets The Madison apart from Sheridan's other shows.

Each season consists of only six episodes.

Sheridan has never made a series this short.

Yellowstone, Landman, Tulsa King, and Mayor of Kingstown typically run 10 episodes per season.

Lioness and 1923 get eight episodes.

The Madison clocking in at just six episodes signals Sheridan treating this project differently than his sprawling Western epics.

Russell praised the more intimate storytelling approach.

"I think that it's a very different show for Taylor in that it's a very female-gaze-oriented show," Russell said. "And I think it's extremely well written, it was fun to play. It was really fun to do. I just had a good time."

The 74-year-old actor heaped praise on his co-star Michelle Pfeiffer, predicting awards shows will come calling.

"I think they're going to be looking [her] way," Russell stated.

"The Madison" represents massive gamble for Paramount+

Paramount+ filming two complete seasons of The Madison before the premiere represents an enormous vote of confidence.

But it's also a huge financial risk.

Russell starred in some of the greatest Western films ever made including Tombstone, The Hateful Eight, and Bone Tomahawk.

Russell cut his teeth on Western TV shows like The Travels of Jaimie McPheeters, The Virginian, and Gunsmoke early in his career.

The Madison marks Russell's first Western TV series since 1976's The Quest.

The show follows the Clyburn family who relocate from New York City to Montana's Madison River valley after suffering a devastating tragedy.

Russell plays Preston Clyburn opposite Pfeiffer's Stacy Clyburn, though details about his character remain tightly under wraps.

The cast also includes Matthew Fox, Patrick J. Adams, Elle Chapman, and Beau Garrett.

The Madison was initially described as a Yellowstone spinoff but Paramount+ has backed away from that label in recent announcements.

Sheridan is calling it his "most intimate work to date."

The Madison premieres March 14, 2026 on Paramount+ with all six episodes of Season 1.

Viewers won't have to wait long for Season 2 since both seasons are already in the can.

That unprecedented filming schedule shows just how much Paramount+ believes in Sheridan's latest project.
