Karoline Leavitt is leaving the White House podium at the end of August.
She just revealed she has been personally advising Trump on who takes her place.
One name in that conversation is already dividing the very people who cheered every briefing she ever gave.
The Name Nobody Expected Her to Push
In her final sit-down interview as press secretary, Leavitt told Fox News she has been giving Trump real input on her successor, not just fielding a courtesy call.
She did not confirm a favorite outright.
But the name generating the most heat since word of her advice got out is Scott Jennings – a CNN commentator who spends his nights defending Trump on the one network conservative viewers trust least.
That is exactly the kind of split-screen detail this base cannot ignore.
Some of Leavitt's biggest supporters see Jennings as a proven fighter who wins arguments on hostile turf every single night, the same instinct that made Leavitt herself a star.
Others see a man who has spent years drawing a paycheck from CNN and ask why the podium should go to someone who works for the enemy network at all, whatever he says once the mic is on.
How Jennings Talked His Way Into the Conversation
Jennings did not lobby for this job in public.
He earned the buzz the same way Leavitt built her own reputation – by picking a fight and winning it.
When Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff went after Trump aide Natalie Harp, Jennings used his CNN airtime and his radio show to tear into Ossoff, at one point calling the senator a coward on the air.
Days later, Jennings met privately with White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, and speculation about the podium started almost immediately.
Trump was asked directly about Jennings while heading out for a trip to South Carolina, and he did not dodge the question.
"Scott Jennings is good," Trump told reporters, according to the Washington Examiner.
Prediction markets reacted instantly.
The Gateway Pundit reported that Kalshi and Polymarket both had Jennings sitting around 39 to 40 percent odds to get the job, putting him well ahead of the field, with White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly running a distant second in the 13 to 16 percent range.
Jennings has been coy about it on his own network.
When Kaitlan Collins asked him point-blank whether the White House had reached out, Jennings grinned and told her, "I would get to see you every day" – an answer Collins herself pointed out was not actually a no.

Press secretaries do not typically get a formal vote in their own succession – that call usually stays locked inside the Oval Office, decided by the president and a handful of his closest political hands.
Trump letting Leavitt weigh in on a name this contested tells you exactly how much trust she built over the past year and a half, and it tells you the fight over Jennings is not going to end quietly.
The chatter keeps missing an obvious point.
Leavitt did not build her reputation by playing it safe at the podium, and there is no reason to believe she is playing it safe with this recommendation either.
If she is pushing Trump toward Jennings, she is betting the base's appetite for a fighter beats its suspicion of anyone who has ever cashed a CNN check – and given how she spent the last year and a half proving conservative viewers wrong about what a press secretary can get away with, that is not a bet to dismiss.
Jennings did not get to nearly forty percent in a betting market by accident.
He got there by doing exactly what Leavitt has spent a year and a half rewarding – walking onto hostile ground and refusing to lose.
Whoever gets the job next inherits her standard, and now, in part, the fight over Jennings that her own advice helped set off.
