Angel Dad Nuked Dick Durbin for Going Silent While He Testified About His Murdered Daughter

Dick Durbin sat stone-faced while a grieving father begged the Senate to protect American families.
Now Durbin is huddling with a Latino advocacy group to plot new ways to block Trump's immigration agenda.
And the father who looked Durbin in the eye – the one who buried his 20-year-old daughter Katie – just told him exactly what that moment revealed.
The Senator Who Would Not Look a Father in the Eye
Joe Abraham of Illinois doesn't need a pollster to tell him where Dick Durbin stands.
Abraham testified before the Senate about his daughter Katie – killed instantly in January 2025 when an illegal immigrant drunk driver rear-ended her car at nearly 80 miles per hour in Urbana, Illinois.
Durbin sat there and said nothing.
No acknowledgment. No condolences. Not even the basic human decency of recognizing a father's grief.
Abraham put it plainly on X: "When I testified before the Senate about my daughter's death at the hands of an illegal immigrant, Senator Durbin couldn't even offer the basic decency to acknowledge our family's pain."
That silence told Abraham everything.

This week, Abraham saw Durbin announce a meeting with a Latino advocacy group – the stated mission being to develop new strategies to block President Trump's immigration enforcement.
The same senator who couldn't spare two words for a grieving father had plenty of energy to scheme with open-borders activists.
Abraham's full message on X should be required reading for every voter in Illinois: "He has far more compassion for those who break the rules to enter our nation than for the innocent Americans left behind to bury their children."
Democrats Have Always Chosen Illegal Immigrants Over American Victims
Dick Durbin isn't an outlier. He's the template.
At a recent House Judiciary Committee hearing on sanctuary city policies, three Angel Moms testified about what those policies cost them.
Two had buried their children.
The third – her daughter survived but is "minimally conscious, nonverbal," requires 24-hour care, and needs a crane to be lifted from bed – the result of a car crash caused by an illegal immigrant.
Angel Mom Laura Wilkerson, whose 18-year-old son Joshua was murdered in 2010, told Democrats on the committee directly: no one should get "sanctuary" from the law, and it was astonishing they even had to be there "begging you to obey the laws that y'all made."
Democrats sat through every word – and went right back to defending the policies that created those tragedies.
Durbin spent decades with the power to demand Illinois change its sanctuary policies.
He didn't.
He had the power to stand with the Abraham family and call for accountability.
He didn't.
He did find time to organize meetings with advocacy groups working to preserve the very system that killed Katie.
This Is What Durbin's Legacy Actually Looks Like
Joe Abraham ended his message to Durbin with a direct challenge: "Say her name, Senator. It's Katie."
Durbin won't. His silence isn't neutrality – Abraham said it himself: "Silence in the face of tragedy isn't neutrality. It's indifference."
What Abraham exposed isn't just one senator's failure. It's the operating logic of the modern Democrat Party.
They hold press conferences about compassion. They fund advocacy organizations and schedule meetings to protect people who violated federal law to enter this country.
And when a father sits ten feet away and describes burying his daughter – they look right through him.
Durbin is retiring. But Abraham's message wasn't just for him – it was for every Illinois Democrat who wants his endorsement and plans to continue his legacy.
Remember who stood with grieving families. And who didn't.
Katie Abraham was 20 years old.
She deserved a senator who would say her name.
