Donald Trump has been moving through his to-do list with breakneck speed.
The Washington, D.C. Swamp had no idea what hit it.
And a veteran journalist revealed one fact about Donald Trump that scared the Swamp.
Trump has already eclipsed Reagan and Bush at reforming the government
The bloated federal bureaucracy has been a mess for nearly a century.
Republican Presidential candidates have promised for decades to go to Washington, D.C. to reform the federal government.
President Donald Trump tapped Tesla CEO Elon Musk to take a wrecking ball to the federal bureaucracy with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
DOGE eliminated diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs at federal agencies, canceled leases for empty federal office buildings, and worked to streamline government agencies in its first two weeks.
Veteran political journalist Mark Halperin argued that Trump has already done more to change the federal government than Presidents Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush on his Morning Meeting podcast.
“You cannot execute the mandate that President Trump has and that many Americans want: to change government, to reduce the head count, to get rid of wasteful spending, to reduce the debt and deficit — you cannot do that without being an outsider who is fearless about taking on the status quo and the Deep State and the entrenched bureaucracy,” Halperin explained.
Musk is the secret weapon for taking a sledgehammer to the federal government.
“It’s not going to happen otherwise,” Halperin said. “And Musk has already done more than Reagan did or Bush did. I mean, he’s already made history in trying to root this out. And he’s doing it in part because he’s aggressive and fearless and has the support of the President and the Vice President. And he’s super smart about systems.”
The federal government has become so vast that being able to get a grasp of everything is its own challenge.
Musk and his DOGE team of engineers began pouring through federal spending using databases they built to spot waste, fraud, and abuse.
Elon Musk’s personality makes him the perfect person for the job
Halperin repeated some of the concerns about Musk leading the DOGE effort but those qualities are what makes him successful in business and in an effort like reforming the federal government.
“The other side of that is he’s a little bit nuts. He’s a little bit on the spectrum … He’s not treating people with respect who work hard in some instances,” Halperin said. “And he may be insufficiently concerned about civil liberties, national security, continuation of programs that are essential, not optional. And I don’t know which it is. I honestly don’t know which it is. I hope that it’s the first, but there’s some indication there’s at least some of the second.”
Musk is a hard-charging entrepreneur who’s built some of the most successful companies in the world by pouring over every detail.
Thinking outside the box is the only way that serious changes are going to be made to the federal government.
