Miles Taylor spent years pretending to be someone important.

Now he's on MSNBC telling you 125,000 Americans celebrating Trump’s birthday are an embarrassment.

The man who lied to CNN about writing an anonymous hit piece on Trump – the "senior administration official" who turned out to be a mid-level staffer nobody had heard of – just watched the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels roar over the Washington Monument in a joint flyover and called it an "image of American decline."

Anonymous, Then and Now

You probably remember when the New York Times published that famous 2018 op-ed from a supposed senior Trump official working the resistance from inside the administration.

The media treated it like Watergate.

Names floated included John Kelly, Nikki Haley, Kellyanne Conway.

The actual author? Miles Taylor – a DHS chief of staff so low-profile that when Trump was asked about him, he said he'd never heard of him.

When Taylor finally revealed himself in October 2020, just days before the election, White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows had the perfect response: "I've seen more exciting reveals in Scooby-Doo episodes."

That's your guy.

The man calling last night a "weekend of humiliation."

What 125,000 Americans Actually Saw

Here's what Miles Taylor watched and described as decline.

The Zac Brown Band performed the National Anthem with the Armed Forces Joint Chorus.

Then the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels roared over the Washington Monument together – the kind of flyover that makes your chest tighten whether you're watching from the South Lawn or the National Mall.

Then 125,000 Americans packed the White House complex for championship fights on the most historic piece of lawn in the country, live on national television, on Flag Day, on America's 250th birthday.

Justin Gaethje knocked out Ilia Topuria in the fourth round to become undisputed UFC lightweight champion.

Every single one of the seven fights ended inside the distance.

PBS commentator David Brooks managed to make it about himself – reaching back to Kennedy-era dinner parties and the kind of artists Democrats still think make a country great, as if the Americans packing that South Lawn needed his approval to feel proud.

That's exactly the mindset that lost them the last three elections.

The MSNBC Recycling Machine

Here's what nobody in the press will say out loud.

Miles Taylor has no audience.

He has a slot.

MSNBC keeps booking him because he fills a specific need – the former Republican who confirms everything their viewers already believe about Trump voters.

Taylor endorsed Biden in 2020, predicted Trump would destroy the country, and has spent six years being wrong about everything in public while getting more airtime for it.

That's the machine.

You get rewarded for hating Trump. You don't get rewarded for being right.

And the tells are always the same.

Taylor wrote an entire piece calling the UFC event America's "Roman moment" – bread and circuses, empire in decline, the end of the republic.

Meanwhile, 125,000 real Americans were cheering so loud you could hear it from the Lincoln Memorial.

One of those groups was right about what this country looks like.

It wasn't the guy in the leather jacket on MSNBC.

The man who deceived his CNN colleagues – who denied for years that he was Anonymous to reporters who asked him directly – now wants you to trust his read on American dignity.

He's been wrong about Trump since 2018, and the crowd roaring on the White House lawn last night knew it before he finished his sentence.
