A third said the track was already on repeat before the day was over.
That reaction fits the pattern Adcock has built his whole career on: blend outlaw country grit with country rock energy, say something that gets people talking, then drop a song good enough that nobody can hold the controversy against him for long.
He's already proven that formula works on festival stages like Country Thunder Wisconsin and at the Madden Bowl during Super Bowl LX week, the kind of booking most artists his age never get near.
A full album, The Day I Hang It Up, is coming behind this single in under a month, which means Adcock isn't treating this song as a one-off single to ride out a news cycle.
He's treating it as the opening track in a much bigger statement, timed right when every music writer in Nashville is still arguing about whether he belongs in the genre at all.

Nashville's polished "Nashville Sound" had no room for either man, so they packed up for Austin and started playing dive bars like the Armadillo World Headquarters instead.

Nashville didn't tame outlaw country.
