President Trump’s 40th Bedminster Win at 80 Came With a Message His Rivals Won’t Forget
Donald Trump shot a 2-under 70 at Bedminster on Sunday and claimed his 40th club championship.
Then he turned to Truth Social and left his rivals with something to think about all winter.
What he told them next might be the most Trump sentence of the year.
The Shot That Backed Up the Boast
Trump posted the winning approach shot from Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey.
Golf analysts pegged the approach at roughly 40 to 50 yards, a full wedge shot that had to clear a greenside bunker before it ever reached the putting surface.
It landed soft, grabbed almost instantly, and rolled to a stop within easy range of the flag.
That is not a lucky bounce.
That is a shot most club golfers practice a lifetime and never pull off.
Fazio designed the course, and it already carries the résumé to match, having staged a U.S. Women's Open and multiple LIV Golf tournaments.
It has deep bunkers, water in play on several holes, and approach angles that punish sloppy ball-striking.
Even scratch-level amateurs rarely crack 90 on that layout, let alone the typical member.
Trump broke 90 by twenty strokes.
He also picked up the super senior net title, giving him two trophies from one Sunday.
Trump credited the win to a packed schedule that leaves him almost no time on the range.
Then he delivered the line his rivals will be hearing about for the next year.
"It's called TALENT, and I have it, and they don't," Trump wrote.
Most winners settle for a handshake and a photo with the trophy.
Trump thanked the competition, then told every one of them why they lost.
Rick Reilly Shows Up Every Single Time
Trump has been counting these wins in public for years.
He told a room full of military members last year that he had 38 championships and barely any practice time to show for it.
That number has now climbed to 40, by his own count, with some outlets tracking his lifetime total even higher.
Every time Trump posts a golf win, the same critic runs out the same old material.
Sportswriter Rick Reilly built an entire book, Commander in Cheat, around the claim that Trump moves his ball on the course.
Reilly's case leans on secondhand caddie stories and a decades-old dispute with a former Sports Illustrated editor who says a storm somehow relocated Trump's ball.
Trump has called Reilly a dishonest writer and says he does not even remember the editor making the claim.
No rules official has ever disqualified a Trump round, and no signed scorecard has ever surfaced to contradict one.
What does surface, every single time, is a fresh batch of golfers online insisting an 80-year-old cannot shoot what Trump just shot, proof optional.
The same insinuation has followed Trump since before his first term in office, and it has never once come with a scorecard attached.
He does not hire a publicist to clean it up.
He posts the shot, names the score, and dares the field to explain it away.
Bedminster Is About to Get a Real Test
LIV Golf returns to Bedminster this week, putting professional golfers on the same greens Trump just carved up.
Henrik Stenson and Cameron Smith have both won titles on that course in recent years.
That is the company Trump's course now keeps, and it is the standard his critics conveniently ignore when they claim his scores are fiction.
A sitting president negotiating missile deals across time zones does not need a strong round to prove anything to anyone.
Trump posted it anyway, because leaving Rick Reilly and every other doubter something to chew on is half the fun for him.
That is the real difference between Trump and the field he keeps beating.
The other golfers at Bedminster show up hoping to win a trophy.
Trump shows up knowing he is also going to win the argument that follows.
Reilly gets another news cycle, the skeptics get their sound bites, and Trump gets to keep doing exactly what he was already doing.
The rest of the Bedminster field now has a full year to find whatever it is they are missing.
