Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift are the pop culture “it couple.”

But beneath the surface, there is some trouble.

And Taylor Swift got called out for one horrible effect on Travis Kelce.

Travis Kelce’s slow start

While the Kansas City Chiefs jumped out to a 3-0 start to the 2024 season, the football media is ignoring a major story staring them right in the face.

And that is the performance of the team’s star tight end Travis Kelce.

Through three games, Kelce’s caught just 8 passes for 69 yards and failed to score a touchdown.

Former ESPN NFL analyst Todd McShay went on Ryan Russillo’s podcast and said everyone who covers the NFL refuses to ask questions about whether Kelce’s poor play is the result of his new celebrity lifestyle that resulted from dating pop star Taylor Swift.

“So, I don’t understand this, and maybe it’s a political thing, maybe it’s like the NFL, and maybe I’m gonna wind up getting a phone call from the league office. Maybe it’s the Taylor Swift, I don’t know,” McShay began.

The breaking point for McShay came when NBC’s Cris Collinsworth didn’t say a word during the Sunday Night Football broadcast of the game between the Chiefs and the Atlanta Falcons.

“But like when you’re staring at something so obvious… Cris Collinsworth is, honest to God, my favorite analyst out there to watch; most respected analyst, I think, in football for anyone that has half a brain…” McShay added.

McShay blames Kelce’s conditioning for slow start

McShay called out Kelce for not showing up in shape.

Over the course of the off-season, Kelce hosted a music festival, produced a podcast with his brother Jason, traveled the globe for Swift’s tour, and showed up with Swift at the U.S. Open one week before the season.

McShay argued that Kelce’s focus was everywhere but football.

“Every show I watch, every pregame show, halftime show, postgame show, weekday show, every broadcast I watch for the last few weeks, it’s like, are we not allowed to say that he’s out of shape? That he’s been partying all offseason? He’s been jet-setting around with the most famous person, probably in the entire world. That he’s drinking… going to the U.S. Open, he’s got cocktails in…” McShay continued.

McShay told Russillo that the visual evidence was there for anyone to see and that all they had to do was compare pictures of Kelce from two years ago to today.

“What I do know is: I want you to take a picture from preseason 2022 and then take a picture preseason 2024; they’re barely the same human being, Ryan,” added McShay. “And everyone’s like, ‘We gotta get him the ball. Why isn’t he part of the offense? The defense is double-covering (him).’ Here’s the thing, bottom line with Kelce, the coverage and the respect he gets is the same; the athlete is not,” McShay stated.

McShay admitted that he thought Kelce would work his way into shape as the 2024 season progressed, but that the NFL media shouldn’t be afraid to state the obvious.

“Now, is he gonna work himself into the shape during the season? Yeah, I’m sure he will. He’s an unbelievable competitor. He’s one of the best to ever do it. And he still finds a way to make a play or two here or there and shows up in close moments. But he’s not the same guy right now. Look at him, just look at his face!” McShay concluded.
