What Democrats say in private about Kamala Harris will blow your mind
Kamala Harris is trying to keep it together in the final two weeks of the campaign.
But top Democrats know better.
And what Democrats say in private about Kamala Harris will blow your mind.
Democrats panic in private over election
One month ago, Democrats were measuring the drapes at the White House.
Top party officials thought they were going to pull off a switcheroo with Vice President Kamala Harris jumping into the race as a last-minute replacement for President Joe Biden.
The plan was that the 11th-hour switch would energize Democrats, appease independents who said they wanted a choice other than Biden or former President Trump, and leave the Trump team with little time to define Kamala on their terms.
And for about eight weeks it worked.
Kamala Harris entering the race handed her a billion dollars in free media as the press gushed over the “joy” she brought to the campaign.
Then Democratic National Convention served as a four-day infomercial that extended her honeymoon phase through August.
But after the September debate, the polls began to turn.
That’s because during the debate Kamala needed to do more than tell people Trump acted unhinged.
She needed to present herself as a plausible President of the United States.
That’s where she fell short.
The first question of the night was put to her about if Americans were better off today than they were four years ago,
Kamala said a lot of words in her answer.
“Yes” wasn’t one of them.
After the dust settled in the aftermath of the debate, Kamala’s poll numbers began to sag as she failed to meet the threshold in voters’ minds of being the Commander-in-Chief.
The RealClearPolitics polling average shows Trump leading in every battleground.
Early vote totals are discouraging.
Republicans lead in Nevada and will soon take the lead in North Carolina.
These are unheard-of developments.
Initial numbers in Georgia and Arizona also paint encouraging pictures for Trump.
In private, Democrats are losing their minds
Party strategists don’t think Kamala is on track to win.
“Everyone keeps saying, ‘It’s close.’ Yes, it’s close, but are things trending our way? No. And no one wants to openly admit that,” a Democrat strategist told The Hill. “Could we still win? Maybe. Should anyone be even slightly optimistic right now? No.”
A second strategist offered a similarly glum assessment using Kamala’s plan to campaign on “vibes” as the basis for his dooming.
“If this is a vibe election, the current vibes ain’t great,” the strategist told The Hill.
These Democrats gave voice to what journalist Mark Halperin reported is the state of mind within the Democrat Party as the election enters the home stretch.
“A lot of tension in Democratic land because they’re behaving as if they’re losing, I’m just telling you if that’s the view of Democrats, too. Not just the media, not just Republicans. Trump campaigns behaving like they’re winning. And Democrats say that’s spin, they’re just spinning you,” Halperin said on his 2WAY platform.
Halperin added that if the election were held today, Trump would win.
“Democrats today want you to think that they’re winning. So when they lose, they can claim the election was stolen. Maybe, but they do think they’re winning. And they’re not the only ones who think they’re winning. Not that this is the election of foregone collusion. But if it were today, Trump would win and the early vote is very ominous so far. So far for the Democrats,” Halperin concluded.
Subbing in Kamala Harris at the last minute was a long shot.
Everyone knew her flaws as a candidate.
And while there is still time for her to turn matters around, the confidence saps out of the Democrat Party on a daily basis.
