Trey Gowdy reacts to push to oust Mike Johnson as Speaker of the House
Fox News host Rich Edson asked fellow Fox News host Trey Gowdy about Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) introducing a motion to vacate the chair and boot Mike Johnson (R) as Speaker of the House.
Greene sought to hold Johson accountable for surrendering to President Joe Biden on a $1.2 trillion spending bill that funded illegal aliens pouring into America, a federal red flag gun confiscation operation, and the transgender ideology.
But instead of being outraged that Johnson would put his fingerprints on attacking the Constitution, pushing transgender ideology, and keeping the border open, Gowdy attacked conservatives who think he should pay a price stabbing the party’s voters in the back.
He claimed the real culprits were former President Donald Trump supporters who backed conservatives in Primary elections.
“I mean, you know, Speaker Johnson — Speaker McCarthy, I think, got a better deal. Remember, they got rid of him. Rich, all you got to do is look back to November. November Midterms where the House Republicans underperformed. So, if you’re wondering why you’re trying to negotiate against Chuck Schumer and Joe Biden it’s because Republicans can’t pick the right candidate and they can’t win elections. And now the margin is, what, razor-thin in the House. They’re on the verge of losing the House. You want to see a bad budget bill? Let the Democrats control the House, the Senate, and the White House. They got nobody to blame but themselves, picking wrong candidates, running bad races, and losing winnable elections,” Gowdy stated.
Gowdy defends Kevin McCarthy
Gowdy has long supported red flag confiscation laws so it’s sadly not surprising he would give Johnson a pass for helping Biden disarm the American people.
The former Congressman turned his fire on Representative Mart Gaetz (R-FL) for leading the successful push to oust former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) after he failed to keep his promise on spending bills.
“So, look, I like Mike Johnson. He was a great colleague. He is a wonderful person. You and I would not be talking about Speaker Mike Johnson had it not been for Matt Gaetz and seven of his comrades who decided to pursue fame and get rid of Kevin McCarthy. What have they gotten as a result of that? How has the House been improved?” Gowdy added.
“What person that can pass a competency test would want to be the Speaker of the House? What person who could actually pass a psychiatric competency test would want to lead a group that includes Matt Gaetz and Bob Good and some of the other people that you just showed? I mean, Mike Johnson is as good as it gets. You had a Speaker. Remember, you had Kevin McCarthy. And you wanted to get rid of him and Jimmy Jordan wasn’t good enough and Tom Emmer and Steve Scalise. No, you got Mike Johnson,” Gowdy concluded.
The “Swamp” is closing ranks around Mike Johnson after he showed he’s the typical pliable establishment Republican who’s willing to give away the store to Democrats in spending fights.
