Comedian Tim Allen is one of the few outspoken conservatives in Hollywood.

He’s starred in some of the most popular sitcoms in TV history.

And Tim Allen uttered five words about Tom Brady that left his critics scared.

Tim Allen talks about his return to TV with his new sitcom

Funnyman Tim Allen is one of the most beloved sitcom stars on TV dating back to his days playing Tim “The Toolman” Taylor on ABC’s Home Improvement in the 1990s.

He transitioned to movies after Home Improvement went off the air in 1999.

But Allen returned to TV to play another dad in the sitcom Last Man Standing

The show ran for nine seasons on ABC and Fox before it wrapped its run in 2021.

Allen’s everyman dad characters resonated with audiences for decades.

Now, he’s starring in his third sitcom on ABC called Shifting Gears where his character will seem familiar to fans of Home Improvement and Last Man Standing.

His character is the widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop and his life gets turned upside down when his estranged daughter and her kids move in with him.

The show’s cast includes actress Kat Dennings, who starred in the CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls, and actor Seann William Scott who headlined the American Pie movie franchise.

Allen is a gearhead in real life with a love of classic cars so the role was a perfect fit for him.

“This will be my third go round for sitcoms, I love entertaining in that venue,” Allen said. “It’s emotional. I’m just recently widowed, my daughter comes home, she’s getting a divorce. It seems a little serious, the two of us, dramatic and funny at the same time.”

He compared himself to former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady with a comeback to TV in an interview with US Weekly.

“I’m still thinking about Last Man Standing,” the actor said. “They did that one for nine years, and now I feel like Tom Brady. I’m doing another one.”

Tim Allen is in his element on a TV sitcom

Shifting Gears is already shooting and will debut on ABC sometime early next year.

Allen hopes that this sitcom will have the success and longevity that his previous two efforts had.

“I’m very grateful to be working, being able to entertain,” Allen stated. “That’s what I love to do.”

ABC picked up the show off the strength of the pilot from earlier this year.

“It’s been a tremendous experience,” Allen explained. “Our pilot killed [it], so they’ve ordered a season, and we’ve been shooting it for about four days.”

Family has been important to him on his sitcoms and in life offscreen.

“I’ve been defined by a very big, large family. My wife Jane’s got a large family, and now we have two [kids],” Allen explained. “My life has been defined by my family”.

He has a daughter with his wife Jane Hajduk and another daughter with his first wife.

“Every story I do on stage, playing comedy for 40 years [and my] stand-up is really centered around my family,” Allen added.

Tim Allen fans will be able to watch him in another family-centered comedy when Shifting Gears debuts on ABC next year.
