Rachel Maddow took one new job that will make Donald Trump’s life a living hell
The left-wing media is in retreat after the 2024 election.
But the Trump haters in the press aren’t ready to wave the white flag of surrender.
And Rachel Maddow took one new job that will make Donald Trump’s life a living hell.
Rachel Maddow is the biggest star at MSNBC.
Maddow signed a new contract in 2022 that paid her $30 million a year to host her show one night a week.
But an early sign of the death spiral MSNBC found itself in after the 2024 election, Maddow took a $5 million per year pay cut.
Now Maddow is back anchoring her 9PM show five nights a week through the first 100 days of the second Trump administration.
“Maddow, who scaled back anchoring duties after the spring of 2022, holding forth only on Mondays, will return to five nights a week at that hour as part of a broader move by MSNBC to draw viewership to its coverage of the first 100 days of the Trump administration,” Variety reports.
Maddow hinted this move was coming.
“I made a promise that when you need me, I’ll be there,” Maddow told Variety in late 2024.
Left-wing activist Alex Wagner held down the fort on Maddow’s show the other four nights a week.
MSNBC is now sending Wagner out into the field to report on “Trumpworld,” the communities in America that swung decisively towards Trump over the last three elections.
“The idea is to give MSNBC viewers a full, 360-degree view of what’s happening in the country in a way that you don’t necessarily get in the studio,” Wagner stated.
Wagner claims her reports aren’t the standard fare where she will confront Trump supporters with how stupid they supposedly are by telling them everything they believe is misinformation and a conspiracy theory.
Instead, Wagner promised real reporting.
“This is really critical to understand how the left can be more responsive to that, and ultimately win the argument,” Wagner added.
This move is really MSNBC pressing the panic button over plunging ratings and rumors of a sale.
MSNBC’s ratings in the key 25-54 year-old demographic – the age group used to set advertising rates – plummeted 65% by the end of 2024.
“The moves will jostle MSNBC’s primetime schedule as the NBCUniversal-backed outlet has been grappling with viewership declines since the 2024 election. Between the election and the end of 2024, MSNBC’s primetime audience between the ages of 25 and 54 — the demographic most prized by advertisers in news programming — fell 65%, according to data from Nielsen,” Variety reported.
Wagner attributed that to viewer exhaustion after three straight Trump-centric election cycles.
“There has been exhaustion, over the last several months in particular. This has been an election cycle unlike any other,” Wagner told Variety. “Having said that, I do think we are on the cusp of some incredible, consequential moves. I believe the American public wants to see that and needs to see that.”
CNN’s ratings are also down.
And Fox News Channel’s ratings are up.
The only conclusion to take away is that the left-wing networks that lied to viewers about Donald Trump burnt their credibility with the public, whereas Fox was the one network trusted to tell the truth.
MSNBC’s parent company Comcast also spun off MSNBC into a separate company.
That’s usually the precursor to a sale.
MSNBC putting Maddow back in the anchor chair five nights a week is a desperate attempt to pull the nose up on MSNBC’s sagging ratings to make the network look more attractive to potential buyers.
