Donald Trump makes a play for a landslide
Everyone thought the 2024 map was set with the seven battlegrounds of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin as the playing field.
But in the final stage of the race, the map could be expanding for former President Donald Trump.
Journalist Mark Halperin told former Fox News host Megyn Kelly that Trump is staffing up and spending money to make a play for blue states like New Mexico, New Hampshire, Virginia, and Minnesota.
Halperin wasn’t predicting Trump would win any of those states or that he would win the Election.
But he told Kelly that his antennae went up when Vice President Kamala Harris made campaign stops in New Hampshire last month.
Halperin claimed his sources told him it was just because she had a fundraiser in Boston and that private polling showed her holding a substantial lead.
“When Kamala Harris a few weeks ago did an event in New Hampshire, I said to everybody in both parties, like, what’s going on? Because she’s spending a day campaigning in New Hampshire. They said, oh, no, she’s got a fundraiser in Boston. She’s given a national speech,” Halperin began.
But when President Joe Biden admitted that he wanted to see Trump locked up, it was at an event in New Hampshire.
Halperin said the fact that Biden campaigned in New Hampshire raised immediate questions about the state of play.
Poll shows Trump within striking distance in New Hampshire
A new Emerson poll released this week showed Kamala leading Trump by three in New Hampshire.
Halperin said there is thinking out there on the Trump side about making a play for a landslide.
“There’s a school of thought. I’m not predicting Trump will win a landslide. I’m not rooting for Trump winning a landslide,” Halperin told Kelly.
Halperin ticked off a number of blue states that Trump could either visit or spend money in.
“But there’s a school of thought that says, Trump’s going to go to Albuquerque to try to win New Mexico. He’s going to go to St. Paul to try to win Minnesota. He’s going to go to, I don’t know, Richmond to try to win Virginia,” Halperin stated.
And Trump did hint on Truth Social that he would be holding a rally in Virginia.

Halperin revealed to Kelly he’d seen a Trump campaign email hiring door knockers in New Hampshire to get voters out to the polls.
“And then he’s going to go to New Hampshire. And I was told yesterday, as someone showed me, an email saying that the Trump campaign is doing last-minute hiring, paying a pretty robust sum for folks to do door-knocking at the last minute. So watch that dynamic,” Halperin concluded.
