Politics is a family affair for Donald Trump.

Trump knows family is who you trust.

But Lara Trump gave her father-in-law some bad news that will ruin the Trump family’s New Year.

Donald Trump tapping Marco Rubio as his nominee for Secretary of State created a vacancy in the United States Senate.

It fell to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to make the selection to fill Rubio’s seat.

Donald Trump’s preferred pick was daughter-in-law Lara Trump.

Lara Trump made her intentions of the position known in a November interview with Fox News Channel’s Maria Bartiromo.

“I know my name has been thrown out there a lot, and I would say that my experience at the RNC has really shown me, you know, serving the American people,” Lara Trump stated.

“And if I were tapped for this, serving my home state of Florida, it’s a great honor and a great responsibility, obviously, but I would love to be able to go forward and do more,” Lara Trump continued.

It was thought that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis could mend his relationship with the Trump base – DeSantis took a hit with some MAGA supporters by challenging Donald Trump for the GOP Presidential nomination – by picking Lara Trump for this Senate seat.

But DeSantis also didn’t want to look like he was kowtowing to Donald Trump.

DeSantis also didn’t think that Lara Trump lived in Florida long enough to have earned the pick.

DeSantis wanted to pick someone with elected experience and who would carry out a conservative vision.

Attorney General Ashley Moody and Congressman Corey Mills emerged as two top picks.

Staring down this reality, Lara Trump bowed out of contention for the seat so as to avoid making it look like DeSantis passed her over which would create even more hard feelings.

“After an incredible amount of thought, contemplation, and encouragement from so many, I have decided to remove my name from consideration for the United States Senate,” Lara Trump’s announcement began.

“I could not have been more honored to serve as RNC co-chair during the most high-stakes election of our lifetime and I’m truly humbled by the unbelievable support shown to me by the people of our country, and here in the great state of Florida,” Lara Trump added.

Lara Trump hinted a big announcement about her future was coming in the new year.

“I have read so many of your kind messages and I cannot thank you enough. I do have a big announcement that I’m excited to share in January, so, stay tuned,” Lara Trump continued.

“I remain incredibly passionate about public service and look forward to serving our country again sometime in the future. In the meantime, I wish Governor DeSantis the best of luck with this appointment,” Lara Trump stated.
