FEMA scandal more widespread than first reported
The media called Donald Trump a liar for saying the Biden-Kamala Harris administration refused to provide relief aide to Republican areas in the southeast ravaged by Hurricane Helene and Milton.
The Associated Press published an article headlined “Trump makes false claims about federal response as he campaigns in area ravaged by Hurricane Helene” where the AP claimed Trump had no evidence to support his claim that the administration was “going out of their way to not help people in Republican areas.”
That all changed when the Daily Wire broke the story that Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) official Marni Washington told workers to ignore homes with Trump signs in the recovery effort.
Washington then told journalist Roland Martin that discriminating against Trump supporters wasn’t some one-off that she cooked up on her own.
“They all alleged that these actions were made on my own recognises and from my own political advances,” Washington stated.
Washington told Martin FEMA’s purposeful neglect of Trump supporters was official policy.
“However, if you look at the record, there is what we call a community trend and unfortunately, it just so happened that the political hostility that was encountered by my team — and I was on two different teams during my own deployment — they just so happened to have the Trump campaign signage. FEMA always preaches avoidance first and then deescalation, this is not isolated. This is a colossal event of avoidance not just in the state of Florida, but you will find avoidance in the Carolinas,” Martin added.
Washington said the orders to ignore Trump supporters came from up on high from FEMA
“Senior leadership will lie to you and say that they do not know, but if you ask the DSA crew leads and specialists what they are experiencing in the field, they will tell you the demand for FEMA to give you those incident reports,” Washington stated.
“We will canvas at [homes] that do not have the community trend with the Trump campaign signage and let it go. If any of those residents come outside that have the Trump campaign signage and say ‘hey, I want to register,’ we’ll welcome them into our arms, we will let you register, great, wonderful. But we were not going to subject our people to continue with verbal abuse or hostile encounters,” Washington concluded.
There are now calls from Republicans to seriously reform or defund FEMA.
Republicans want to relocate FEMA out of Washington on the belief that moving federal agencies out of the swamp and into flyover country would make them more responsive to red America.
Other conservatives want to defund FEMA.
Republicans now own a trifecta in D.C.
There will clearly be investigations into how the Biden-Kamala Harris administration left Trump supporters to die in the wake of Hurricanes Milton and Helene.
The questions will be in what form will the accountability come.
