Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) identified the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) as the top of the list of government spending to cut to achieve the stated goal of slashing one trillion dollars in savings.
Musk wrote on social media that President Trump agreed with him about shutting down USAID.
“With regard to the USAID stuff, I went over [it] with him in detail, and he agreed that we should shut it down,” Musk stated. “I actually checked with him a few times [and] said, ‘Are you sure?’”
Musk explained that the agency was irredeemably corrupt and it turned taxpayer money into the fuel that powered a global Marxist political machine.
“USAID was a viper’s nest of radical-left Marxists who hate America,” Musk wrote on X.
Former Trump administration official and free speech activist Mike Benz posted an explainer video on X about how USAID funded an international web of leftwing nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) to create censorship regime to silence conservatives and nationalists around the world.

Pushback came from Fox News Pentagon correspondent Jennifer Griffin.
Critics have long accused Griffin of acting like an anti-Trump stenographer for the Deep State.
In 2020, Griffin claimed she confirmed the “suckers and losers” hoax that first appeared in The Atlantic which falsely claimed Donald Trump insulted dead veterans.
Now Griffin amplified a deep state bureaucrat and defended USAID as a worthy expenditure of taxpayer money.

Musk responded by pointing out that USAID shoveled money out the door to projects that helped create the coronavirus.
“Did you know that USAID, using YOUR tax dollars, funded bioweapon research, including COVID-19, that killed millions of people?” Musk asked his followers on X.
Foreign aid is unpopular with the public and Democrats drawing a line in the sand on money for transgender comic books in Peru or DEI programs in Serbia seems like an odd line to draw.
But USAID funds left-wing opposition parties around the world.
With Trump and the GOP controlling the White House and Congress, the left likely hoped that USAID could continue to operate as an unaccountable fiefdom and fund the opposition here in the United States.
