Dodge Built 270 Chargers for Mopar’s 90th Birthday but Forgot to Invite the Real Legend

Dodge shut down the old Charger in 2023 with a farewell lineup it called Last Call.

Now, Mopar is turning 90, and Dodge rolled out a numbered, carbon fiber Charger to throw the party.

Pop the scooped hood on this birthday Charger, and the engine underneath tells you exactly where Dodge still stands.

The Mopar '27 Charger Gets 270 Cars and Three Colors

The Mopar name goes back to 1937, when Chrysler smashed "motor" and "parts" into one word, and the parts brand is celebrating nine decades with a special Charger called the Mopar '27.

Dodge will build just 270 of them, with 243 headed to American dealers and 27 to Canada.

Buyers get three colors, 90 cars apiece in Bludicrous, Diamond Black, and White Knuckle.

The package runs $10,995 on top of the sticker price of a two-door Charger R/T or Scat Pack Plus.

That money buys carbon fiber aero pieces front and rear plus a carbon fiber hood with a scoop that actually breathes.

It also adds a Direct Connection cold-air intake, special graphics, a numbered plaque on the radiator panel, and a matching badge on the dash.

Darren Bradshaw, Stellantis's senior vice president for parts and service in North America, said the car honors "nine decades of helping enthusiasts make their vehicles uniquely their own."

Dodge has given the Charger this kind of Mopar dress-up three times before, in 2011, 2015, and 2023.

The new cars show up first at the NHRA Las Vegas Nationals, then move to the SEMA Show floor November 3 through 6, with dealer orders opening in early January 2027 and production starting that spring.

A Twin Turbo Six Where the Hemi Used to Live

Both versions run the 3.0-liter twin-turbo Sixpack inline-six, not a V8.

The R/T makes 420 horsepower and hits 60 in 4.6 seconds.

The Scat Pack Plus cranks out 550 horsepower and gets to 60 in 3.9 seconds.

All-wheel drive comes standard, along with a button that sends the power to the rear wheels for burnouts, which tells you Dodge knows exactly who buys these cars.

Nobody is calling this car slow.

Still, muscle car buyers have never shopped by stopwatch alone.

They buy the sound, the rumble at idle, and the shake of a big V8 through the floorboards.

A turbocharged six, however quick, does not deliver that.

The Charger name has meant one thing to Mopar men since 1966, when the first Charger rolled out with a 426 Hemi on the option sheet.

That engine earned the nickname "the Elephant" for its size and its appetite, and it became the most feared motor at any drag strip in America.

A 90th birthday Mopar Charger without a Hemi is a Grand Ole Opry tribute show without a fiddle.

Joe Biden's Fuel Rules Killed the Hemi Charger

The V8 Charger did not die of old age.

It died under a Biden-era rule demanding that automakers average roughly 50 miles per gallon across their passenger cars by 2031.

That fleetwide target turned every supercharged Hemi Dodge sold into a federal fine waiting to happen.

Detroit got the message, and Dodge shipped the V8 out the door with the 2023 Last Call cars.

Then Trump came back.

In December 2025, standing beside the Ford and Stellantis chiefs, he announced, "We're officially terminating Joe Biden's ridiculously burdensome CAFE standards."

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy put it even more bluntly: "The way that Democrats talk about affordability is a lie."

Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa answered with a pledge of $13 billion in American investment and 5,000 new jobs.

Ram had already put the Hemi back in its half-ton pickups, and in May 2026 Dodge confirmed a supercharged V8 Hellcat Charger with more than 700 horsepower is on the way.

Dodge Has the Hellcat Coming and Still Skipped It for the Party

Dodge has not said when that Hellcat arrives.

Tim Kuniskis, the executive who built the Hellcat legend at Dodge, came back to run Ram and had the Hemi back in its trucks within months.

That move proved the demand for a Hemi never went anywhere.

So the 90th birthday car shows up with a six-cylinder and an $11,000 dress-up kit while the real guest of honor waits backstage.

Mopar buyers are a loyal bunch, and 270 cars will sell out fast.

Plenty of them will go straight into heated garages with the serial plaques polished and the odometers barely turning.

The men who remember the Elephant rumbling at a stoplight will notice exactly what went missing.

Biden's regulators took the V8 away, Trump and Duffy handed it back, and Dodge still left it off the birthday cake.
