Right after President Trump, the media targeted Elon Musk as public enemy number one.

But the usual hit pieces and smears aren’t working.

And Bill Maher came to one realization about Elon Musk that will make Democrats sick.

During the campaign, Elon Musk told Americans that he could identify $2 trillion in spending cuts.

Joe Biden’s trillions in reckless government spending caused the inflation crisis.

The number one way to get prices to come down is to slash spending.

That’s why Donald Trump put Musk in charge of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

DOGE achieved results right off the bat as 75,000 government bureaucrats accepted a buyout offer the Trump administration proposed.

DOGE’s social media account also revealed it saved taxpayers $110 billion in Trump’s first month in office.

The media went on the attack publishing hit pieces left and right hysterically claiming Musk threatened to dismantle America itself by clearing out nonessential bureaucrats and voiding wasteful contracts for DEI programs in foreign countries, subsidies for fake news media outlets, or radical pro-Hamas groups.

A common refrain in the press was Musk presented no evidence to back up his claims that the federal budget was chock full of fraud.

The lone dissenting voice on the Left belonged to Bill Maher.

On his Real Time show, Maher admitted he initially bought into the panic over DOGE firing deep state bureaucrats thinking federal downsizing would lead to poisoned water, trains falling off the tracks, and general chaos across America.

But Maher asked his panel a simple question: “Is what Elon Musk is saying about the bureaucracy operating as a criminal enterprise true?”

“I mean, Musk said career Treasury officials are breaking the law every hour of every day by approving payments that are fraudulent or do not match the funding laws passed by Congress,” Maher began. “Is that true?”

Maher said he didn’t want to take Musk’s word on this – or anything else for that matter.

“I don’t know, because he says things that aren’t true all the time and doesn’t care. Or retweets something that is plainly, easily, probably not true. So I don’t know,” Maher added.

Maher went on to say that what he couldn’t dispute was the fact that a Government Accountability Office report found that the federal budget contained $521 billion in fraudulent payments, a number that Maher admitted validated Musk’s assertions.

“But I do know this because this comes from the Government Accountability Office. That’s not the Trump administration. The federal government loses an estimated $233 to $521 billion annually to fraud,” Maher continued. “So when Trump fired – the first thing he did was fired all the inspectors general. And I thought, well, that’s not good. That’s their job to watchdog stuff. But if you’re losing $521 billion a year, how good are you Watchdogging?”

The media is playing the wrong side of this fight.

Democrats and the press are now backing themselves into a corner having to defend every government job and spending program at a time when the public voted for change to the status quo.

That positioning will allow President Trump, Elon Musk, and DOGE to remain on the offensive as leftists will now have to defend in public all the absurd government spending programs that no rational human being can understand why they exist.
