A Taylor Swift marriage announcement had all hell breaking loose
Taylor Swift’s relationship with NFL star Travis Kelce is still the biggest story in sports and pop culture.
But it also blew up out of control.
And a Taylor Swift marriage announcement had all hell breaking loose.
Monday Night Football announcer makes massive Taylor Swift marriage gaffe
The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the New Orleans Saints 26-13 on Monday Night Football.
But the most memorable moment from the contest came in the second quarter when Chiefs star tight end Kelce caught one of his nine passes.
The ESPN camera cut to a luxury box to show his girlfriend, pop star Taylor Swift cheering him on.
“The missus likes it,” Hall of Fame quarterback and ESPN color analyst Troy Aikman stated.
That led partner and play-by-play announcer Joe Buck to jump in and quickly correct him.
“You know they’re not married?” Buck wondered.
It dawned on Aikman the level of gaffe he committed.
“Oh I know,” Aikman replied. “I’m sure I’m in trouble for saying that.”
Controversy over Kelce’s relationship with Swift
Kelce hauled in nine passes for 70 yards on Monday night.
While the Chiefs are 5-0, he is off to one of the slowest starts in his career.
Going into the Saints game, Kelce had just 15 receptions for 158 yards through four games.
This led to speculation in the media about the cause of his diminished production.
Former ESPN NFL draft analyst Todd McShay told The Ringer’s Ryen Russillo that he thought Kelce was out of shape after an offseason of partying and traveling the globe with Swift for her Eras Tour.
“Every show I watch, every pregame show, halftime show, postgame show, weekday show, every broadcast I watch for the last few weeks, it’s like, are we not allowed to say that he’s out of shape? That he’s been partying all offseason? He’s been jet-setting around with the most famous person, probably in the entire world. That he’s drinking… going to the U.S. Open, he’s got cocktails in…” McShay stated.
“What I do know is: I want you to take a picture from preseason 2022 and then take a picture preseason 2024; they’re barely the same human being, Ryan,” added McShay. “And everyone’s like, ‘We gotta get him the ball. Why isn’t he part of the offense? The defense is double-covering (him).’ Here’s the thing, bottom line with Kelce, the coverage and the respect he gets is the same; the athlete is not,” McShay added.
McShay said he expected Kelce to play himself into shape and be in top form for the playoffs when it counted.
The Kansas City Chiefs are gunning to be the first team in NFL history to three-peat.
With wide receiver Rahsee Rice out for the year with a knee injury, the Chiefs need downfield passing threats.
But if Kelce isn’t playing up to snuff that task could become impossible.
