A Sledgehammer Beheaded an Iwo Jima Memorial Marine and it Turns Out Two Administrations Approved the Suspect’s Paperwork

A man with a sledgehammer knocked the head clean off a Marine on the Iwo Jima monument outside Quantico.

Prince William County police caught him in the act, and federal sources soon pulled his immigration file.

What that file shows about who let him stay will make every Marine family in America furious.

Police Found the Suspect Swinging At the Flag Raisers

Officers rolled up to the monument near Marine Corps Base Quantico at about 10:13 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21.

Police say they found a man pounding the statue with a sledgehammer when they arrived.

The figure on the far right was missing his head.

Another Marine had gouges carved across his helmet and face.

A third figure's bayonet, on the rifle slung over his back, was busted.

Police put the repair bill in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Marine Corps Base Quantico confirmed it is working with county police on a joint investigation.

This was not a random piece of yard art.

The nine-foot limestone sculpture was carved by Felix de Weldon, the same artist who went on to build the Marine Corps War Memorial in Arlington.

It captures the moment on February 23, 1945, when Marines raised the flag on Mount Suribachi.

Nearly 7,000 Americans died taking that island.

Twenty-seven earned the Medal of Honor there.

The monument stands at the doorstep of the base where generations of Marine officers learn to lead, a short drive from the National Museum of the Marine Corps.

Obama and Biden Kept Him Here for a Decade

Police arrested Miguel Alonso Maldonado Soriano, 27, of Stafford, Virginia.

Federal sources told Fox News' Bill Melugin that Maldonado Soriano is a Mexican national who crossed into the country illegally in December 1999.

Bill Clinton was President.

In 2014, Barack Obama's administration handed him DACA status.

In 2024, Joe Biden's administration extended it.

His protection finally lapsed in August 2026, when the Trump administration declined to renew it.

Two months later, he was in handcuffs, charged with taking a sledgehammer to the Iwo Jima Marines.

The charges are felony destruction of property, felony injury to a monument, and trespass with intent to damage property.

He is being held without bond.

Under Virginia law, damaging a monument to the tune of $1,000 or more is a Class 6 felony, and that carries up to five years behind bars.

The damage police described here runs hundreds of times past that line.

Police have not released a motive.

The White House didn't mince words.

"This criminal illegal alien's dream is over: Maldonado Soriano disrespected our brave service members," spokeswoman Taylor Rogers said.

Rogers also laid the blame where it belongs – on socialist Democrats who want the border wide open.

The Department of Homeland Security answered with a photo of an Iwo Jima memorial and four words: "This we will defend."

A Federal Court Already Ruled DACA Unlawful

DACA was never a law.

Congress never passed it.

Obama created it with a memo in 2012 after lawmakers refused to give him the amnesty he wanted.

In January 2025, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals agreed with Texas that the program is unlawful.

Every approval the Obama and Biden administrations rubber-stamped told the world that Washington would look the other way.

Democrats sold DACA to America with stories about valedictorians and future doctors.

They never mentioned the 27-year-old the program covered for a decade before he landed in a jail cell charged with smashing a war memorial.

We have seen what happens when the country lets mobs and vandals treat monuments like punching bags.

In June 2020, rioters pulled down a statue in Washington, D.C., and tried to rip Andrew Jackson off his pedestal across from the White House.

Trump signed an executive order directing prosecutors to go after monument vandals to the fullest extent of the law.

He reminded everyone the Veterans' Memorial Preservation Act carries up to ten years in prison.

The Iwo Jima Marines Deserved Better From Washington

Six men raised that flag on Suribachi.

Three of them never made it off the island.

The sculpture outside Quantico exists so every young Marine walking through that gate remembers what those men gave.

Now those young Marines pass a broken tribute to the very men they're training to follow.

Nobody in the Obama or Biden administrations ever had to answer for what that paperwork would cost.

A Marine figure honoring the dead stands without a head.

Trump's team stopped renewing the protection, and that was the right call.

No extension, no amnesty, no more excuses.

The next step is just as simple.

Prosecute Maldonado Soriano for every count Virginia can bring, and when he's done answering those charges, put him on a plane to Mexico.

The Marines who took Iwo Jima earned that much.
