Ilhan Omar Duffed Her Response When Asked About Marrying Her Brother in First Major Mainstream Interview Follow Raid

Federal agents stormed Ilhan Omar's house at six in the morning.
Weeks later, she sat across from a friendly MS NOW host and got asked one question she never saw coming.
Ilhan Omar had the chance to deny marrying her brother and chose four strange words instead.
Homeland Security Had DNA Evidence Before Agents Ever Knocked
Homeland Security Investigations agents arrived at Omar's D.C.-area home at six in the morning on October 12, 2026.
Omar told MS NOW host Chris Hayes that agents surrounded the house and pounded on both the front and back doors.
She said the early hour was designed to "freak them out."
Agents went room by room and left with seventeen items, including multiple phones.
Her home address had already gone public, so her family may now have to move.
The search warrant reportedly identified her as "Congresswoman Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, AKA Ilhan Abdullahi Omar."
Investigators reportedly already secured DNA evidence tied to the marriage-fraud question before agents ever reached her door.
Homeland Security chief Tom Homan has said Omar could be denaturalized entirely if investigators prove the fraud.
Homan was not vague about any of this back in September – he confirmed an "ongoing criminal investigation" and said "there's something that's been reported and needs to be looked at."
Ted Cruz Laid Out the Three Felonies Omar Could Be Facing
Hayes asked Omar point-blank whether there was any truth to claims she married her brother, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, to secure his citizenship.
Omar said a Somali blog started the rumor that Elmi "had been my brother or something to that effect."
She called the bloggers' follow-up "insane" after they went looking for people to back up the claim.
When Hayes pressed her on whether there was any "weird kernel of truth" to the story, Omar answered, "Not to my knowledge."
That is not a denial.
That is a hedge.
Sen. Ted Cruz has said if the allegation is true, Omar faces criminal exposure under three separate statutes.
Federal marriage fraud alone carries up to five years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and possible deportation.
Minnesota's incest statute is a felony punishable by up to ten years.
Tax fraud exposure could add a $100,000 fine and three more years if joint returns were filed while she was not legally married.
Omar's own timeline is what built this mess in the first place.
She entered a religious marriage to Ahmed Hirsi in 2002 and kept having children with him for years afterward.
In 2009, while still with Hirsi, she legally married Elmi – the man Republicans say is her brother.
She divorced Elmi in 2017 and married political consultant Tim Mynett in 2020.
Omar Has Dodged This Exact Question Before
In December 2025, Fox News Digital reporter Alec Schemmel asked Omar whether investigators would find anything, and she snapped "Absolutely not."
Pressed moments later on why the allegation kept resurfacing, the flat denial disappeared and she called the people asking about it "sick."
Days later, conservative activist Laura Loomer released video of Omar going silent when a reporter asked her point-blank if she married her brother.
Omar filled that silence by mocking Trump's age instead.
Nearly a year and two separate confrontations later, Omar is still running the same play: deflect, insult the person asking, dodge the one word that would end the story.
A single word was all Hayes asked for.
Omar gave him four instead, and none of them was it.
Omar Resurfaced With a Plea for Cash, Not Answers
Omar stayed out of public view for more than a week after the raid.
She finally reappeared with a selfie video filmed from the back seat of a car, thanking supporters for sending $5, $10, and $20 donations.
"It's going to be a very expensive and challenging time," she told them – without once mentioning the raid or the investigation.
Hours after agents left her house, she had already called the search "an outrageous abuse of power" on social media.
President Trump was not buying it.
Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump said Omar "could" be denaturalized – and added, "she could also go to jail."
He called her "a very dishonest person" who "hates our country."
Trump has branded her a phony for years over this exact allegation, and the federal government now has a search warrant naming her under her ex-husband's last name and reported DNA evidence to go with it.
Omar is asking Americans to fund her fight against a government she calls abusive, using money raised off a scandal she still will not deny with one clean word.
