State Department Pulled Ukraine Witness Visa One Day Before Senate Testimony and FBI Timeline Collapses

Senate Republicans Ron Johnson and Chuck Grassley built their Hunter Biden Burisma probe around one Ukrainian witness in 2020.
Declassified emails now reveal the State Department yanked that witness's visa one day before his scheduled testimony.
What that agent later admitted about his own paperwork is the part Senate Republicans were never supposed to see.
Emails Show the Visa Was Pulled Before the FBI Finished Its Own Case
The witness is Andrii Telizhenko, a former aide at Ukraine's embassy in Washington who later worked for Blue Star Strategies, the Democratic Party-aligned firm Burisma hired to manage its American reputation.
Telizhenko had firsthand knowledge of how Burisma operated and was lined up to help Johnson and Grassley examine Hunter Biden's board seat on the Ukrainian energy company.
Embassy Kyiv ordered his visa revoked on September 8, 2020, according to the declassified emails, timed to block him from traveling to the United States for his Senate interview.
An FBI Foreign Influence Task Force agent wrote that the bureau was "putting together an LHM" to formally request the revocation.
The very next day, that same agent wrote that he had "stopped working on it since he was already revoked."
Read that again.
The FBI's own paperwork to justify pulling the visa was not finished before the visa was pulled.
Deputy Assistant Secretary of State George Kent later described the move in an October 20, 2020 email, writing that the visa had been "prudentially revoked" the day before Telizhenko planned to fly to Washington.
Nobody in these documents claims Telizhenko broke a law.
Treasury Then Sanctioned Him Using a Claim the Record Does Not Support
Having lost his visa before he could testify, Telizhenko was hit again four months later.
Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control sanctioned him on January 11, 2021, concluding he was complicit in foreign interference.
The sanctions memo leaned on a public BuzzFeed report alleging ties between Telizhenko and Ukrainian lawmaker Andriy Derkach, a Kremlin-linked parliamentarian.
Telizhenko has flatly denied it, saying of the Derkach claim, "Not true."
The same Treasury memo asserted that "every witness" in the Johnson-Grassley probe said Joe Biden never altered American foreign policy to help his son.
Telizhenko was one of the people the government was actively blocking from testifying.
A government that silences a witness and then cites the silence as proof there was nothing to find is not running an investigation, it is running a cover story.
Telizhenko told Just the News the sanctions left him "sanctioned for six years, putting my life into disaster."
This Was Not an Isolated Decision
Declassified ODNI documents released in August 2026 revealed a separate FBI counterintelligence operation, code-named Round River, that ran out of the same Foreign Influence Task Force ahead of the 2020 election.
Round River branded Attorney General Bill Barr, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Senator Lindsey Graham as "conduits" for what the bureau called Russian disinformation.
Sources familiar with the operation told The Federalist its real goal was to "scuttle any investigative leads into Biden family corruption," including the Burisma ties the Johnson-Grassley probe was built to expose.
That is the same bureau, the same task force, and the same election cycle that revoked Telizhenko's visa one day before he could tell Republican senators what he knew.
This was not a single overzealous case officer making a judgment call under pressure.
It was a pattern of the same people deciding, in advance, which facts about Joe Biden's family America was allowed to hear.
Durham's investigation already established the FBI opened the Trump-Russia case on a thinner reed than this, so the bureau cutting corners to shut down an inconvenient witness fits a bureau that had done it before.
Johnson and Grassley spent years being told by reporters and federal officials that their Burisma probe was Russian-tainted.
The documents unsealed this week show the people making that claim had not finished their own work before they acted on it.
Telizhenko lost his visa, then his reputation, then six years of his life under sanctions, while the senators trying to question him got a half-written memo instead of a witness.
He was prepared to testify about his own direct contacts with Obama administration officials and a Democratic National Committee consultant during his work for Blue Star Strategies.
"I would've done it again," Telizhenko told Just the News.
Johnson and Grassley's response to all of it: "As with any inquiry, you get answers by asking questions."
