Bessent Put an Exact Number on How Fast Newsom Is Losing California

California loses a taxpayer to another state every two and a half minutes.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent brought that number to Dallas this week and hung it around Gavin Newsom's neck.

What Bessent called Newsom next is why the room came unglued.

Bessent Named California Exhibit A in His Case Against the Radical Left

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stood in front of Republicans at the party's midterm convention in Dallas on Wednesday and went after the entire Democratic playbook at once.

He said Trump has taken the country "from autopen to overdrive" in fifteen months.

The autopen line is a direct shot at Joe Biden, and everyone in that ballroom knew it.

Bessent credited Trump with signing "the largest tax cuts in history" and called America "the world's energy superpower" again.

Then he turned to the left.

Bessent accused the radical left of trying to import "the misery of failed workers' paradises like the Soviet bloc, Caracas, and Havana."

He said that vision ends the same way it always does, in his words: "food shortages, deadly delays in medical care, and squalid housing."

Bessent did not leave that as some abstract warning about foreign countries.

He pointed straight at Gavin Newsom.

"Exhibit A is Sparkle Beach Ken's California, from which a taxpayer flees every 2.5 minutes," Bessent said.

That line was not improvised.

Bessent built it directly off the insult that made him a hero to this crowd back in January, when he told the room at Davos that Newsom "strikes me as Patrick Bateman meets Sparkle Beach Ken."

Newsom answered by photoshopping his own face onto a Ken doll and posting it instead of denying the comparison.

Eight months later, Bessent brought the nickname back to a friendlier room in Texas and attached a body count of fleeing taxpayers to it.

The Number Behind Bessent's Exodus Claim Checks Out

Bessent's 2.5-minute line sounds custom-built for a room full of Texans who already think California is a punchline.

It also happens to line up with real IRS numbers.

IRS migration filings tracked by the National Taxpayers Union Foundation put California's real taxpayer loss at one every minute and 44 seconds.

IRS data analyzed by Fox News showed California's taxable income base shrinking by $18 billion in 2020, then $29 billion the very next year.

Newsom's team has spent years dismissing the exodus story as a Fox News obsession, but the IRS paperwork behind that $29 billion loss keeps proving them wrong.

Bessent also had a jobs number to back up the rest of his speech.

The economy added 162,000 jobs in August, blowing past forecasts by more than triple, while unemployment barely budged at 4.1 percent.

Bessent wants voters to hold that number next to Newsom's taxpayer exodus and decide for themselves which governing model actually works.

Newsom Just Volunteered to Be the Face of Blue State Failure

Newsom picked this fight at Davos by mocking a Wall Street guy in a suit.

Bessent has now answered him twice, and both times he showed up with a number Sacramento can't spin away.

Newsom wants to run for president in 2028, and Bessent just handed his future rivals a script for the primary debates.

You cannot sell California as the model for America while the IRS keeps a running tally of everyone leaving it.

Every Republican on the ballot this fall just got a cheat sheet from the Treasury secretary himself: California didn't collapse because of bad luck, it collapsed because of the exact politics Newsom is selling as the future of the Democratic Party.
