James Carville Went on CNN and Ripped the Network for What They Just Did to Trump

CNN decided you couldn't be trusted to watch your own president speak.

Then the network's own paid Democrat strategist went on the air and said CNN was wrong to hide it.

What James Carville said next left CNN with no good answer.

Carville Turns His Fire on the Network Signing His Checks

Thursday night, President Trump stood in the East Room and addressed the nation on election security.

CNN did not air it.

Neither did ABC or NBC.

Fox News carried the speech in full, and so did CBS – with disclaimers stapled on for good measure.

Fox aired it anyway, still working through the fallout of the $787 million defamation settlement it paid over its own 2020 election coverage.

Friday afternoon, CNN's Wolf Blitzer brought on James Carville expecting the usual Democrat talking points.

He got something else entirely.

This is the same strategist who helped elect Bill Clinton to the presidency in 1992, not exactly a rookie Democrat operative.

Carville told Blitzer he'd advise Democrats to go after CNN, ABC, NBC and MS NOW directly for refusing to run the speech live.

Then he kept going.

"I don't think we should have hidden that from the American people," Carville said.

Blitzer, sensing where this was headed, asked Carville point blank if he thought the networks should have given Trump more airtime.

It was the softest question Blitzer could have asked, and he still looked rattled by the answer.

Carville confirmed it without a second of hesitation.

He argued voters deserved to watch Trump's entire address unedited, not a handful of clips selected by network producers.

He went further, calling the president mentally unfit – live on the same air CNN had used to justify keeping the speech off the air in the first place.

This Blackout Has Happened Before – Just Never Been Confessed

Network blackouts of presidential addresses aren't new.

ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox skipped Obama's 2014 immigration speech, judging it too political for primetime.

Broadcasters split again when Biden delivered his 2022 "Battle for the Soul of the Nation" address, with ABC, CBS and NBC declining to carry it live.

Every single time, the networks called it an editorial judgment call – nothing more.

Trump didn't buy it, and he said so from the podium, accusing ABC and NBC of being "part of a plot" and calling for their broadcast licenses to be pulled.

FCC Chairman Brendan Carr, a Trump appointee, said the day before the speech that Americans have every right to hear it over the public airwaves.

Carr's FCC has already opened a diversity-practices probe into NBC's parent company and is reviewing ABC's license renewal.

None of that pressure stopped ABC and NBC from making the same call executives made against Obama back in 2014.

Trump's speech landed four months before Republicans defend their House majority in the midterms, which is exactly why every second of it mattered.

What Carville Actually Let Slip

You already knew CNN was lying to you about why it buried that speech.

Carville just made the network admit it, on its own air.

Carville wasn't trying to help Trump.

He wanted Democrats to use Trump's own words against him heading into the midterms, and he said as much to Blitzer.

But strip away the spin, and Carville just handed conservatives their argument for free.

If CNN genuinely believed showing the full speech would have exposed the president as unfit, the network had every incentive to air it – ratings, credibility, a live audience watching in real time.

Think about how backwards that is.

CNN spent Thursday night deciding Americans couldn't handle watching Trump speak for themselves.

CNN spent Friday afternoon airing a guest who insisted Americans absolutely should have watched Trump speak for themselves.

That's not journalism protecting the public from misinformation.

That's a newsroom deciding, in advance, what its own audience is allowed to watch – and admitting it, by accident, less than a day later.

Every reporter who called that speech too dangerous to air just watched their own colleague argue it should have reached more people, not fewer.

Trump's team didn't need to say a word.

James Carville said it for them, sitting on CNN's own set, on CNN's own air – and you were right about this network long before he was.
