Newsom claimed the GOP reconciliation package would cause electricity costs to skyrocket by 30%, calling it “one of the most destructive bills in U.S. history.”

The problem?

Newsom’s own California ratepayers are already drowning under some of the most crushing utility bills in the entire country.

Talk about throwing stones from a glass house.

Californians shell out a staggering 104% more for electricity than residents in other states, according to the Center for Jobs.¹

That’s not a typo – families in the Golden State pay more than double what other Americans pay just to keep their lights on.

While Newsom was busy fear-mongering about potential price increases under Trump, his own policies have already delivered the nightmare scenario he’s warning about.

California’s green energy disaster comes home to roost

The irony gets even richer when you look at what’s driving California’s sky-high energy costs.

Newsom has pushed an aggressive zero-emissions agenda, demanding an 85% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2045.

California now produces more solar and wind power than it can actually use, forcing the state to build expensive battery storage facilities and literally pay neighboring states to take their excess electricity.

Energy policy experts have warned that heavy reliance on wind and solar technology weakens the electricity grid, making blackouts more likely.

California has experienced exactly those problems, with Newsom himself pleading with residents to cut back on power use during a September 2022 heat wave to avoid rolling blackouts.

Trump calls out the green energy scam

President Trump has been crystal clear about his plans to end the wasteful green energy subsidies that are bleeding taxpayers dry.

On June 21, Trump slammed the “green tax credits” and called for removing all wind subsidies and “the rest of this JUNK.”²

The GOP-controlled Senate has already dealt several blows to green energy provisions in the reconciliation package, moving up deadlines for wind and solar projects that critics say are nothing more than corporate welfare.

Unlike Newsom’s failed green energy experiment, Trump’s approach focuses on reliable, affordable energy that actually works for American families.

California’s energy infrastructure crumbles under green mandates

The damage from Newsom’s policies goes far beyond just high prices.

Multiple power plants and oil refineries have shut down because California’s environmental rules made it impossible for them to operate profitably.

In 2024, state officials had to desperately keep three natural gas plants running until 2026 just to prevent blackouts.

That’s the same natural gas that Newsom’s green agenda is supposed to eliminate.

California’s complex web of environmental programs and carbon trading schemes have piled even more costs onto energy bills, creating a bureaucratic maze that enriches special interests while families get stuck with the tab.

Gas prices in California are also among the highest in the nation and are expected to increase again as new amendments to the state’s gasoline tax kick in.
