Mitch McConnell is Donald Trump’s archenemy in the Republican Party.

McConnell and his followers would like nothing more than Trump and the MAGA movement purged from the GOP.

And Mitch McConnell issued this last challenge to Donald Trump.

Mitch McConnell was one of the last remaining vestiges of the gerontocracy in American politics.

McConnell, along with the 84-year-old Nancy Pelosi, ruled Congress for a generation.

The two teamed up with 82-year-old Joe Biden to open the border and rubberstamp a socialist spending agenda that lit the fuse of inflation.

Now all are out of power.

Pelosi no longer leads the Democrats in Congress.

And McConnell, by announcing he won’t seek an eighth term in Congress, will join Joe Biden in retirement.

“I will not seek that honor an eighth time. My current term in the Senate will be my last,” McConnell said in a speech on the Senate floor announcing he won’t seek re-election in 2026.

McConnell then declared he would spend his final two years in office fighting Donald Trump on foreign policy.

McConnell believes in military adventurism and forward deployment of forces above all else, and seethes at the fact that President Trump’s America First conservatism is now the dominant strain of the conservative base.

“Thanks to Ronald Reagan’s determination, the work of strengthening America’s hard power was well underway when I arrived in the Senate, but since then, we’ve allowed that power to atrophy,” McConnell declared.

McConnell then claimed he had “unfinished business” to carry out.

“And today, a dangerous world threatens to outpace the work of rebuilding it. So lest any of our colleagues still doubt my intentions for the remainder of my term, I have some unfinished business to attend to in our work,” McConnell added.

McConnell is likely referring to more funding for the war in Ukraine even though President Volodymyr Zelensky is insulting President Trump and trying to sabotage peace negotiations.

These last two years now promise to be a bareknuckle brawl between McConnell and Trump for the future direction of the GOP foreign policy.

“The Senate is still equipped for work of great consequence, and to the disappointment of my critics, our critics. I’m still here on the job,” McConnell added.

It was long past time for McConnell to retire.

An aide maneuvers McConnell around the Capitol in a wheelchair because – like Joe Biden – McConnell can barely stand up without falling down.

President Trump won’t miss McConnell in the least.

Recently Trump addressed McConnell voting against his nominees and referred to McConnell’s physical and cognitive decline saying he was no longer fit for leadership.

“I feel sorry for Mitch. He’s not equipped to be a leader, mentally. He never was. Under him, the Republican Party was going to H*ll. McConnell never really had it. He had votes because he gave money to senators. I was the one that got McConnell to drop out of the leadership position. He’s not voting against Bobby [Kennedy], he’s voting against me. He’s a very bitter guy. But we have a very strong party, and he’s lost his power. It’s affected his vote,” Trump declared.
