Justin Trudeau begged Donald Trump not to sign one piece of paper
Outgoing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is leaving office in disgrace.
Trudeau suffered one last indignity.
And Justin Trudeau begged Donald Trump not to sign one piece of paper.
Donald Trump campaigned on a promise to wield tariffs as a negotiating tool to force other countries to stop ripping off America.
Trump identified the flow of deadly fentanyl – which kills more than 100,000 Americans each year – into the country as the top target to rebalance the scales.
Fentanyl originates in Communist China and makes its way into America as cartels in Mexico and Canada traffic it across the border.
Trump believes the only wakeup call Communist China, Canada, and Mexico will recognize is one that hits them in the pocketbook.
That’s why Trump signed an executive order imposing 25 percent tariffs on goods imported from Mexico and Canada as well as 10 percent tariffs on Chinese imports.
Trump announced his tariffs in a post on Truth Social.
“Today, I have implemented a 25% Tariff on Imports from Mexico and Canada (10% on Canadian Energy), and a 10% additional Tariff on China,” Trump began.
Trump told Americans the International Emergency Economic Powers Act granted him the authority to impose these tariffs and that they were a tool he promised to wield to secure the border from influxes of drugs and illegal aliens.
“This was done through the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) because of the major threat of illegal aliens and deadly drugs killing our Citizens, including fentanyl. We need to protect Americans, and it is my duty as President to ensure the safety of all. I made a promise on my Campaign to stop the flood of illegal aliens and drugs from pouring across our Borders, and Americans overwhelmingly voted in favor of it,” Trump added.
Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau begged Trump not to impose tariffs declaring “it doesn’t have to be this way.”
Trudeau knew tariffs were coming, but didn’t take steps to show Trump he was serious about stopping drugs from entering America.
“Yes, we’ve had our differences in the past, but we’ve always found a way to get past them. As I’ve said before, if President Trump wants to usher in a new golden age for the United States, the better path is to partner with Canada, not to punish us,” Trudeau added.
In response, Trudeau announced tariffs on $125 billion worth of American goods.
The products Trudeau tariffed according to CNBC included “American beer, wine, bourbon, fruits and fruit juices, vegetables, perfumes, clothing and shoes, as well as household appliances, sporting goods and furniture.”
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum also sought to challenge Trump.
“I’ve instructed my economy minister to implement the plan B we’ve been working on, which includes tariff and non-tariff measures in defense of Mexico’s interests,” Sheinbaum posted on X.
Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard was even bolder.
“Plan B is underway,” Ebrard declared. “We will win!”
Canada and Mexico can put on a brave front.
77 percent of Canada’s imports go to the United States.
84 percent of Mexico’s imports are to the United States.
This is a trade war Canada and Mexico can’t win, and unless they quickly agree to Trump’s demands, they will suffer massive economic hardship.
